The current FIM Enel MotoE World Cup leader Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt IntactGP) securing a crucial pole position for the two title-deciding races at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
The two races are scheduled for today Saturday (16:25 local time) and Sunday (15:30).
With fellow title contender Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) in fourth, the front row was completed by the two Pons Racing 40 standard bearers (Mattia Casadei and Jordi Torres) in second and third, respectively.
Experienced Swiss rider ‘Domi’ took a steady approach to the opening day, as he was fifth in both free practice sessions. This preparation is not uncommon for the reigning World Supersport Champion, who then showed his true speed when it mattered most. His 1’43.174secs was the quickest in a streak of competitive lap-times for the #77, as he showed great pace throughout Qualifying 2.
Second place Casadei was en route to a potential pole position before crashing out unhurt in the last sector during his third flying lap, an incident that put an early end to his Q2 effort. The young Italian rider nevertheless showed great speed aboard his Energica Ego Corsa #27 and he will surely play an important part in the title battle unfolding across the weekend. Two-time MotoE World Cup Champion Torres is in a very different situation compared to twelve months ago, but after a turbulent season the talented Catalan rider is back to top form and cannot be counted out from the roster of potential race winners.
Granado, on the other hand, will line up behind his arch-rival Aegerter and then have to go all-out given his 17.5-point gap from the top of the standings. The Brazilian star’s weekend began with a small crash during FP1, which only slightly affected his opening day at Misano. Alongside him, the most-winning rider at Misano in the series, Matteo Ferrari (FELO Gresini MotoE), has a third place in the standings to defend from Casadei and Miquél Pons (LCR E-Team), who completes row two in sixth place.
