Ecorally is a motor racing format that takes place on public roads using vehicles approved for road traffic and powered by different types of alternative propulsion such as hybrids, hydrogen, natural gas, LPG or electric power from batteries or solar panels. The rankings are determined by combining the result of the special tests and the energy consumption index of the vehicle. This type of competition was born in 2006 with the first edition of the San Marino’s Ecorally. Also the EcoRallyRAID, another off-road design series derived from Ecorally, is within the FIA Alternative Energies Cup and is managed by the Alternative Energy Commission of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile.
