Formula E announced that NXT Gen Cup will race as support of European Races of the sigle seater electric championship and here we present the new series.

The NXT Gen Cup is the world’s first 100% electric junior touring car cup where young female and male drivers race the LRT NXT1, a fully electric race car based on the MINI Cooper SE road car – engineered and built by Lestrup Racing Team.

Education

Presentiamo la NXT Gen CupAll drivers will be part of a comprehensive education programme. Being fastest on the circuit is just one of many crucial things tomorrow’s professional racing drivers needs to be best at. The drivers of NXT Gen Cup will receive a robust education in sponsor relations, company economics, PR and media relations, social media and much more. All this to get the tools needed for a professional racing driver career.

Arrive and drive

The setup of NXT Gen Cup is “Arrive and Drive”, meaning that the junior drivers can focus on the vital things rather than arranging transport of cars, pit setup, etc. All cars are maintained by the NXT Gen Cup organisation in a joint pit lane where all drivers get a robust exposure level and assistance from the experienced staff – ensuring equal conditions to perform. VIP catering for the driver and its sponsors is included in the entry.

The LRT NXT1

Presentiamo la NXT Gen CupThe LRT NXT1 is the world’s first all-electric junior touring car racer. The car features a 30kWh battery with an electric motor which produces 230hp pending circuit with a push-to-pass functionality. The cars are capable of running 16-minute races at full pace thanks to comprehensive testing by NXT Gen Cup in a wide array of conditions. The LRT NXT1 weight 1150kg and are FWD. The cars include a full logging system for engineering and driving analysis.

The race weekends

The race weekends are held together with ABB FIA Formula E and DTM and are of two-day setup, except for Monaco which is one-day. The first day is focused on practice and qualifying, while day two is all about racing.

Example setup below which may differ between race weekends:

  • Day 1 – Practice 1 & 2 – Qualifying
  • Day 2 – Race 1 – Race 2

The cost

A NXT Gen Cup season costs 80.000€ which includes two test days, six race weekends, VIP catering and tickets, exposure on the doors of the race car and race suit, an education and media programme.

The 100% electric LRT NXT1

Presentiamo la NXT Gen CupThe 100% electric LRT NXT1 is based on the MINI Cooper SE road car, built and developed by LRT. The car features 190-230hp (pending circuit) with instant torque and a “push to pass” functionality. The sophisticated electrical drivetrain with its 30 kWh battery enables races of more than 15 minutes with no power loss.

  • Performance: Power: 190-230hp pending circuit, Push-to-pass: +60hp, Top speed: 180km/h (limited)
  • Drivetrain: Front-wheel drive 100% electric. Liquid cooled motor. 30kWh battery. 800V, 60kW charging
  • Chassis: 2-way adjustable dampers, 6-piston brake calipers, 1150kg

We have learned of the good news which will further enrich the show on the track and will enliven the rich program of the fan village, which we are building together with Formula E, involving the many local stakeholders and we will seize the great promotional opportunity – he declared. We are proud that the first step will be at the Misano World Circuit – concludes.
