Granado won again and Ferrari is the new MotoE World Cup Champion

Moto E Valencia Gara 2

The final race of 2019 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup was won by Eric Granado (Avintia Esponsorama), and Matteo Ferrari (Team Trentino Gresini MotoE) is the first Champion.

Matteo Ferrari rode smartly and avoided any unnecessary risk given the great gap available on the only remaining contender, Bradley Smith (One Energy Racing).

Team Tech-3 Racing’s Hector Garzo was dropped out of the title race after a disqualification was inflicted on him and the team following a technical irregularity regarding tyre pressures in Race One.

Moto E Valencia Gara 2Ferrari and Team Trentino Gresini MotoE can now happily celebrate the title and enter the record books as the first winners of this exciting series.

The race itself was won by Eric Granado (Avintia Esponsorama), who fended off all attacks from Bradley Smith right up to the last corner, when the Briton dived up on the inside with a tough manoeuvre that did not pay off on corner exit. The Brazilian took a well deserved win to wrap up his season on an excellent note, despite the missed opportunities he experienced in the early rounds.

Hector Garzo took the final podium place for 3rd with a big margin over Alex De Angelis (OCTO Pramac MotoE) and the aforementioned Matteo Ferrari, while Mike Di Meglio (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) won the battle for sixth place ahead of Sete Gibernau (Join Contract Pons 40) and Mattia Casadei (Ongetta Sic58 Squadracorse). Nico Terol (OpenBank Angel Nieto Team) and Jesko Raffin (Dynavolt IntactGP) completed the top-ten.

The early stages of the race saw three riders in the gravel: Josh Hook (OCTO Pramac MotoE) and Xavier Simeon (Avintia Esponsorama) had a coming together, while Niccolò Canepa (LCR E-Team) had a spectacular highside. Thankfully, all riders were uninjured.

The Energica team will stay one more day in Valencia for a media test of both the Ego Corsa (on the track) and the MY2020 range of road bikes in the beautiful surroundings of the circuit, before making their way back to the headquarters in Modena to start the preparations for what will be a much-anticipated second season of the series.
