Held in the Puskas Arena in Budapest, the ceremony was attended by esteemed guests, including Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Managing Director of BYD Europe, Michael Shu.

The occasion was especially significant in light of BYD’s strategic vision for Europe. Central to this is the construction of a highly advanced electric car factory in Hungary, which will be pivotal to serving the entire European market, while also supporting the local Hungarian economy.

The event was made even more special as the first nine Hungarian customers were presented with a BYD model car by Chairman Wang Chuanfu, featuring a special plate to commemorate this historic occasion.

Michael Shu, Managing Director, BYD Europe said:

Today, we celebrate the delivery of our first BYD electric cars to customers in Hungary, which makes it a very momentous event, and to whom we extend our very special thanks. Our electric car journey in Hungary is just beginning and represents a significant step forward in our mission to promote electric mobility across Europe. Our presence in Hungary, marked by the establishment of manufacturing facilities and the launch of our brand, underscores our long-term commitment to the region, and supports BYD customers throughout Europe. We are grateful to the Hungarian government for their visionary approach and support in promoting e-mobility. With the support of our customers and stakeholders, we are confident in our ability to drive towards a sustainable and electric future.

In his speech, Péter Szijjártó said:

BYD will be Hungary’s fifth car manufacturer. This, I think, proves once again that it is not an exaggeration to say that Hungary is a European car manufacturing superpower.” The Minister continued: “So we can say that BYD, the Government of Hungary and the Municipality of Szeged, along with the Hungarian motorists, have been involved in the writing of this joint success story, and the Government of Hungary remains committed to continuing this success story.
