Londra, Gran Bretagna. 1 Luglio 2016.

Piacevole kick-off al Giovedì elettrico Warsteiner

Formula E in London: small talk from the paddock

London, UK. 1st July 2016. Everything is set for the finale: on Saturday and Sunday the new Formula E Champion will be decided. Accordingly, the atmosphere at Battersea Park around the title contenders, Lucas di Grassi from Team ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport and his rival Sébastien Buemi, is packed with action and suspense.

Dicey situation in the title race

The situation before the last two races of the season could hardly be more thrilling than this: Lucas di Grassi is leading the overall standings with a one-point advantage over Renault factory driver Sébastien Buemi. Sam Bird (DS Virgin), with a 61-point deficit, merely has mathematical chances of clinching the title. 25 points (and subsequently 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1) are awarded in the race, plus three points for pole position and two points for the fastest race lap. So, a total of 60 points are yet to be awarded in two races. Here’s a sample calculation: if Lucas di Grassi manages a hat-trick of taking pole position and victory plus setting the fastest race lap on Saturday, and Buemi scores no points at all, the Brazilian will have become champion early. In the teams’ classification ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport, with a deficit of eleven points, trails the Renault squad in second place.

Enjoyable kick-off at Warsteiner Electric Thursday

Warsteiner kicked off the race weekend in London with a true party highlight. Held at one of the hippest rooftop bars, the event was attended by more than 250 guests, including the entire Team ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport with its drivers Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi. A large number of partners of ABT’s UK importer joined the Formula E family in getting in the mood for the days at Battersea Park as well.

What part is the weather going to play at the finale?

Sunshine on Thursday, partly heavy rain on Friday – what will the weather be like on the two race days in London? The forecast is for changeable conditions. “The main thing is that the same conditions exist for everyone,” says Lucas di Grassi. For good reason: last year the Brazilian entered the final weekend with ambitions for the title but just before his qualifying group went out, rain set in. The result: a poor grid position and title chances spoiled by rain.

Sightseeing in London

Both Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt are great fans of London. Obviously, the two teammates would not miss an invitation to the legendary Tower Bridge extended by Formula E. Over cocktails and dinner with international members of the media they enjoyed a relaxing and inspiring start of the weekend.

Head-to-head race of the title candidates also on #FanBoost

Lucas di Grassi and Sébastien Buemi are fighting a fierce duel not only in the point standings. In the race for the FanBoost the two rivals were consistently among the top three on Friday. Fans have the opportunity to give their favourite driver an extra power boost in the race by voting in social media channels or on the official Formula E website. Lucas di Grassi is supported by partners with global operations such as Schaeffler, Würth and the LGT Group, among others.
