Londra, Regno Unito. 24 Giugno 2016. Il DS Virgin Racing cercherà di terminare la seconda stagione del FIA Formula E Championship in stile quando il Battersea Park di Londra ospiterà i round 9 e 10 nel fine settimana del 2 e 3 luglio.

A seguito della pole position e del quinto posto di Jean-Eric Vergne a Berlino, che era la terza pole position di fila della squadra e la quarta della stagione, DS Virgin Racing si trova attualmente al terzo posto nella classifica generale dei team e cercherà di usare il vantaggio del sostegno a casa a loro per consolidare la loro posizione.

Nel frattempo Sam Bird, la cui DSV-01 sarà caratterizzata da una speciale librea una tantum dell’Union Jack per la doppia gara del Battersea Park, cercherà di ripetere il suo trionfo del 2015 sul terreno di casa e recuperare ulteriori punti a Sébastien Buemi e Lucas di Grassi, che attualmente sono davanti a lui in primo e secondo posto nel Campionato Piloti.

La pista di 2,925 km con 17 curve presenta una serie di curve veloci e chicane, ed è uno dei circuiti preferiti di Sam della stagione di Formula E.

“Non vedo l’ora di correre di nuovo a Londra – in parte perché è una specie di mia città, e perché la Formula E ha creato una pista spettacolare in un ambiente sublime,” dice. “Non solo, naturalmente. Essa detiene ricordi molto speciali dato il mio successo qui la scorsa stagione. Vincere la gara è stata un modo brillante per porre fine alla stagione 1 e farò di tutto per garantire alla squadra e ai nostri tifosi di avere un motivo simile per festeggiare alla fine questa, la nostra seconda stagione di Formula E.”

Per Jean-Eric Vergne, il London ePrix rappresenta un’altra occasione per continuare la sua recente ripresa della fortuna, che lo ha visto prendere la pole position a Berlino a seguito di un impressionante secondo posto a Parigi.

“Le ultime due gare sono state davvero buone per me personalmente, quindi spero di poter continuare questo slancio a Londra e avere un forte finale di stagione”, ha detto Vergne, che raccolse un terzo posto nella prima gara dello scorso anno del Londra ePrix. “Ho fatto un buon podio la scorsa stagione, che mi dà fiducia per la gara. Il team tecnico ha fatto un grande lavoro per rendere la vettura davvero competitiva quindi vogliamo dare al pubblico di casa qualcosa di cui rallegrarsi e veramente metteremo il massimo di noi per tutto il weekend”.

Il Team Principal del DS Virgin Racing, Alex Tai ha aggiunto:

“Guardando indietro in questa stagione, è certamente stata piena di dramma e divertimento. E’ stato fantastico guidare la squadra attraverso di essa, e complessivamente penso che siamo in un buon posto in questo momento. Il fatto che abbiamo guadagnato punti in ciascuna delle ultime tre gare non solo dimostra che abbiamo il ritmo, ma che abbiamo anche due piloti di talento eccezionale. La vittoria di Sam a Londra la scorsa stagione è stata un finale quasi perfetto e spero che possiamo essere in alto anche quest’anno per gettare veramente buone basi per la stagione tre”.

Il responsabile di DS Performance, Xavier Mestalen Pinon, ha detto:

“Con le sue curve veloci la velocità media del London ePrix dovrebbe essere tra le più veloci della stagione, dopo Punta del Este e Long Beach, nonostante la natura irregolare della pista. Le nostre simulazioni hanno dimostrato che la capacità dei piloti di rigenerare l’energia durante la frenata sarà particolarmente messa alla prova durante la gara. E’ fondamentale che evitiamo gli errori in questi due turni per assicurarci di mantenere la nostra posizione nel campionato. Quest’ultimo ePrix della stagione sarà anche l’occasione per celebrare il primo anniversario della nostra partnership tra il Brand DS e il team Virgin Racing DS, quindi sarebbe fantastico celebrare questo punto di riferimento in grande stile!”

Il fondatore del gruppo Virgin, Sir Richard Branson, ha detto:

“Sono davvero impaziente di tifare per la squadra a Londra e sostenere Sam e Jean-Eric. Qualunque cosa accada in pista, possiamo tutti celebrare una seconda stagione di successo per la Formula E. DS Virgin Racing aiming for electrifying finale to season two

London, UK. 24th June 2016. DS Virgin Racing will be looking to finish the second FIA Formula E season in style when London’s Battersea Park hosts Rounds 9 and 10 on the weekend of 2-3 July.

Following Jean-Éric Vergne’s fifth place finish and pole position in Berlin, which was the team’s third pole position in a row and its fourth of the season, DS Virgin Racing currently sits in third place in the overall team standings and will be looking to use the home support to their advantage to consolidate their position.

Sam Bird, meanwhile, whose DSV-01 will feature a special one-off Union Jack livery for the Battersea Park double-header, will be looking to repeat his triumph on home soil from 2015 and make up further ground on Sébastien Buemi and Lucas di Grassi, who currently sit ahead of him in first and second place in the Drivers’ Championship.

The 2.925km track with 17 turns features a number of high-speed corners and chicanes, and is one of Sam’s favourite tracks on the Formula E circuit.

“I can’t wait to race again in London – partly because it’s sort of my home city, and because Formula E has created a spectacular track in a sublime setting,” he says. “Not only that, of course. It holds very special memories given my success here last season. Winning the race was a brilliant way to end Season 1 and I’ll be going all out to ensure the team and our fans have a similar reason to celebrate at the end this, our second season of Formula E.”

For Jean-Éric Vergne, the London ePrix represents another opportunity to continue his recent upturn in fortunes, which saw him pick up pole position in Berlin to follow up an impressive second place in Paris.

“The last two races have been really good for me personally, so hopefully I can continue that momentum into London and have a strong end to the season,” said Vergne, who picked up a third-place finish in the opening round of last year’s London ePrix. “I got a good podium here last season which gives me confidence going into the race. The technical team have done a great job to make the car really competitive so we want to give the home crowd something to cheer and really get them behind us throughout the weekend.”

DS Virgin Racing Principal, Alex Tai added:

“Looking back at this season, it’s certainly been full of drama and excitement.  It was fantastic to lead the team through it, and as a unit I think we’re in a really good place right now. The fact that we have earned poles in each of the last three races not only shows that we have the pace, but that we also have two exceptionally talented drivers. Sam’s win in London last season was a near perfect finale and I hope we can top that this year to really lay down a marker for season three.”

“With its fast corners the average speed of the London ePrix should be among the fastest of the season, after Punta del Este and Long Beach, despite the bumpy nature of the track.
