During the Unveiling 2022 event, organized by the University of Bologna’s racing team, UniBo Motorsport, has been presented the Futura 2022 project.
Futura 2022 is the single-seat racing catamaran prototype made by University of Bologna students, based on a propulsion system that integrates different energy sources, all with zero C02 emissions, to power a dual outboard electric motor.
Such a propulsion system demonstrates that the key to sustainable mobility lies in a mix of technologies that are all available today: high-pressure hydrogen converted to electricity via a fuel cell, next-generation lithium batteries developed by students, and high-efficiency photovoltaic panels.
The catamaran encapsulates these different energy sources through structural elements made of bamboo, aluminum and various recycled composite materials, with the goal of achieving a degree of environmental impact close to neutrality.
The next goal of the UniBoAT project is to participate in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2022 competition at the Yacht Club de Monaco, Principality of Monaco, from 4 to 9 July 2022.
