Tenwaysis proud to announce a major new accolade for itsCGO009,winner of the first edition of the Antonio Colombo Innovation & Design Award.
This is the first edition of a new Italian award celebrating functional design and technological innovation in cycling. The award was presented this Friday 4 September at the 2026 International Bike Festival, held at the Misano World Circuit (Rimini, Italy).
Created by Velo Media – The Business of Cycling in collaboration with the International Bike Festival, the award is the first international recognition dedicated to cycling design and innovation to be presented in Italy. Its aim is to identifythe most disruptive product in the cycling industry, recognising outstanding contributions in terms of design and technological innovation. The inaugural edition was open to products launched on the market from January 2025 onwards, across all cycling categories.
The Tenways CGO009 embodies the spirit of the award. The e-bike reinterprets urban mobility through a design approach in which technology is not simply added to the productbut fully integrated into its aesthetic and functional language.
The result is a bicycle defined by a clean, contemporary design, with technological and mechanical components seamlessly integrated into a streamlined silhouette. The CGO009 features a 250 W, 45 Nm Tenways C9 rear-hub motor, a torque sensor, a Gates CDN Carbon belt drive, a removable battery and the Smart Connect system, which brings connected features to the riding experience. All of this is housed within a sleek, clean-lined 6061 aluminium frame.
Who is Antonio Colombo?
The award takes on an even greater significance because of the man it honours. Antonio Colombo, a Milan-born gallerist and passionate cyclist, led iconic cycling brands including Columbus and Cinelli, as well as 3T and Castelli, for decades.Throughout his career, he helped redefine the way the bicycle was conceived, championing a vision in which innovation, design, art and culture could come together.
Among the most iconic projects associated with his career is theCinelli Laser, first introduced in 1981, winner of the Compasso d’Oro in 1991 and now part of the permanent collection of the ADI Design Museum in Milan. His legacy also includes the Rampichino,Italy’s first mountain bike, launched in 1984, and the legendarySpinacihandlebar extensions, introduced in 1996 and quickly becoming a must-have among professional road racers of the era.
His career also featured numerous collaborations with the worlds of art and design, including the 1987Cinelli Laser painted by Keith Haring, as well as projects with the celebrated Alchimia group and designers Alessandro Mendini, Guerriero and Ceccariglia, and with Fornasetti, to name just a few.
Against this backdrop, the Tenways CGO009’s victory highlights how bicycle design continues to evolve beyond the traditional boundaries of the industry:moving from purely performance-driven engineering to products that combine identity, technology and everyday usability.
It is precisely this ability to bring design and functionality together that is one of the defining characteristics of CGO009:an e-bike conceived not simply as a means of transport, but as a design object that naturally integrates into everyday urban life.
An e-bike that doesn’t look like an e-bike: the battery and motor are almost invisible. A pragmatic design in which sophisticated technology is not showcased for its own sake, but placed at the service of everyday use, with a particular focus on safety. Tenways’ collaborations with Europe’s leading street art museum, the Street Museum in Amsterdam, add a distinctive sense of uniqueness and contemporary character. The intelligent smartphone interaction further enhances the overall design.
This is the jury statement from the panel that unanimously voted for Tenways.
We are particularly proud to see the CGO009 receive an award that places design at the heart of cycling innovation. For us, design is not simply about creating a bicycle that looks good; it is about developing a product in which every element has a purpose and contributes to the overall riding experience. The CGO009 was born from precisely this idea: making technology an integral part of the design and turning urban mobility into a simple, intuitive and enjoyable experience– said Amir Fazeli, Tenways’ General Manager.
