As we anticipated on January 15th (see the article here), the Gen4 Formula E tests took place at the Pôle Mécanique Alès Cévennes, near Montpellier, France.
These tests were requested by Spark, and according to Electric Motor News’s Long Ear (l’Orecchio Lungo di Electric Motor News), their electronics technicians worked tirelessly over the three days from February 3rd to 5th behind closed doors, fine-tuning the new car’s electronics.
As expected, only one car was present, driven by English driver James Rossiter, who oversaw the entire development process. As for tires, two sets of Bridgestone wet-weather tires and one dry-weather set were brought along.
The car was white with orange and red sidewalls, and the ABB, Bridgestone, FIA, and Formula E logos were prominently displayed.
The weather was not pleasant during these days, which were cold and rainy. However, during these latest track outings, Electric Motor News’s Long Ear reportedly heard rumors about the presence of two television crews, one French and one Japanese for Bridgestone, busy filming the car for promotional purposes.
Mr. Hiroshi Imai, Head of Motorsport at Bridgestone, was also present at the test, personally following the latest Gen4 tests.
Finally, Electric Motor News’s Long Ear confirmed what Roger Griffiths, Team Principal of Andretti, had anticipated: that the cars will be delivered to all teams in September.
Currently, the only teams with a Gen4 on site are the five teams that tested the car behind closed doors at the Circuito Costa de Almeria in the Tabernas Desert, Andalusia (Spain): Jaguar, Lola, Nissan, Porsche, and Stellantis.
