Eric Granado, the first pole position in the 2020 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup at Jerez

MotoE Jerez qualifiche

Eric Granado (Avintia Esponsorama Racing) is the man to beat in this opening round of the 2020 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup at Jerez.

Brazilian rider showed once again the perfect synergy he developed from day one back in 2019 with the Energica Ego Corsa and signed the best time in qualifying, with a mixture of unpredictability, welcome surprises and drama that made predictions tricky right up to the flag.

After having to wait for all the other riders to complete their fast-lap attempts, the double winner at Valencia last year put together a stunning 1’48.620secs time, which was made even more impressive as he was +0.120secs behind the then leader Lukas Tulovic (Tech 3 E-Racing) after the second split. Tulovic, meanwhile, had really stepped up his game this afternoon and put in an incredible performance despite this being his very first MotoE round. His lap ended up being just 0.191secs shy of pole position.

Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt IntactGP) had an extra challenge to face in his quest for the most prominent spot on the grid. The experienced German – but still a MotoE rookie – had to abort his first attempt as the red flag was deployed following a massive crash suffered by Niccolò Canepa (LCR E-Team), from which the Italian fortunately escaped unscathed.

Fourth place went to reigning World Cup-winner Matteo Ferrari (Team Trentino Gresini MotoE), ahead of the surprising Alejandro Medina (OpenBank Aspar Team) and Canepa’s teammate Xavier Simeon, with Alex De Angelis (OCTO Pramac MotoE), Jordi Torres (Pons Racing 40), Niki Tuuli (Avant Ajo MotoE) and Mattia Casadei (Ongetta Sic58 Squadracorse) rounding out the top ten.

The excitement is now building up for the opening race of the 2020 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, which will get underway at 10:05 local time (GMT+2) at Jerez de la Frontera.
