Sealence Power Tech presents at the “Electric and Hybrid Marine Expo 2024” in Amsterdam its revolutionary “Solid State Battery”.
The “Energy” division of the Sealence Group, presented at the Electric and Hybrid Marine Expo 2024 in Amsterdam its innovative Solid State Battery, designed specifically for use in the marine industry.
This cutting-edge technology represents a significant breakthrough in the battery field, positioning Sealence Power Tech among the pioneers in Europe in making Solid State technology effectively available on the market.
Solid-state batteries combine safety, efficiency and high energy density, solving many of the issues present in other lithium battery technologies, primarily those related to safety and weight.
Safety – in fact – is one of the inherent strengths of Solid State technology, thanks to their stability and the reduction of risks associated with the essence of liquid electrolytes, making them among the safest in the industry. In addition, thanks to the Battery Management System technology developed in-house by Sealence Power Tech, an additional level of safety can be achieved by monitoring battery health, individual temperatures and any issues even remotely, directly from the operational control center at the company’s headquarters. This advanced monitoring system makes it possible to intervene promptly in case of anomalies, thus providing greater peace of mind for end users.
Precisely because of its very high safety features, Sealence Power Tech’s new Solid State battery lends itself to use in large-cabotage applications such as passenger and cargo shipping, as well as for all those applications where the safety factor and related certifications are crucial.
Indeed, another distinguishing feature concerns the modularity of the system, which allows up to 32 batteries to be easily connected in a single 5 MWh system. This scalability makes it possible to customize energy solutions according to specific power and energy needs.
Sealence Power Tech has announced to the market the availability of two versions of its Solid State Batteries, designed to meet different needs. The 400V version with an energy capacity of 75 kWh and 312 kg in weight and the 800V version with an energy capacity of 150 kWh and 625 kg in weight.
Both versions boast an energy density of 240 Wh/kg and a continuous discharge capacity of up to 2C. This feature enables rapid energy delivery, which is essential for marine applications that require high performance in terms of power and reliability, allowing them to operate with greater efficiency and less downtime during charging.
Sealence has been maintaining an ongoing commitment to the decarbonization of water transportation over the years, directing significant budgets of its business plan toward innovation issues related to its own green propulsion, with its own high-efficiency DeepSpeed electric jets, as well as, as in this case, to highly sophisticated energy storage solutions designed to be used even on large passenger ships.
Sealence Power Tech is already taking orders for these innovative batteries, with the first deliveries scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.
“We are excited to be able to offer such an advanced and safe solution in an industry such as shipping, which in recent years has increasingly turned its gaze toward decarbonization and electrification – said William Gobbo, CEO of Sealence.
“We are confident that our Solid State Battery will revolutionize the way energy is used in marine applications. With our commitment to innovation and safety, we are paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient future for marine – said Davide Lusignani, CEO of Sealence Power Tech.
