Nissan discusses electric vehicle adoption with Australian Senators

Nissan Casting Australia Plant (NCAP) in Melbourne, Victoria recently hosted six Senators to outline the role NCAP plays in the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) at Nissan globally.

The senators are members of a committee by the Australian Senate established to inquire into the use and manufacture of electric vehicles. The committee has been charged with investigating the economic, environmental and social benefits of widespread EVs take up in Australia, and are receiving submissions as well as engaging with key industry, academic and regulatory groups in the EV space.

Nissan Senatori australianiThe Senators and their advisors toured the manufacturing facility and spoke with employees on quality control, the sharing of engineering knowledge globally, as well as the facility’s agile ability to adapt to the impending changes in the industry.

Nissan Casting Plant (NCAP) manufactures 2.6 million die-cast aluminum parts and over 16,000 tow bars annually. Parts are distributed to Renault-Nissan (Alliance) vehicle assembly plants and Nissan affiliate powertrain plants globally – specifically in Japan, the USA, the UK, Thailand, South Korea and Mexico – and supplies companies such as Calsonic Kansei, Aichi Kikai and transmission specialist JATCO, all of which demand the highest possible quality.

Earlier this year, Nissan announced that it will introduce the new Nissan LEAF – the world’s best-selling electric vehicle – to Australia and six other markets in the region within this fiscal year.
