BYD launched its second electric vehicle in Japan, the “BYD Dolphin” model in two versions, powered by 44.9 kWh and 58.56 kWh batteries.
The first of them has a 400 km range and priced at 3.63 million yen (equivalent to RMB 179,000), while the long-range variant of 58.56 kWh battery has a 476 km range and priced at 4.07 million yen (equivalent to RMB 211,000).
The BYD Dolphin is a compact electric vehicle based on the e-Platform 3.0, which is closely tailored to the needs of the Japanese market. The overall height of the BYD Dolphin in Japan has been adjusted to 1,550 mm to meet the size restrictions commonly found in mechanical parking facilities.
This anticipated model is equipped with BYD ultra-safe Blade Battery and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2H (Vehicle-to-Home) capabilities, allowing it to be versatile in a variety of scenarios, including outdoor activities. It features an Ocean Aesthetics design concept resulting in a dynamic, stylish, and highly recognizable visual symbol, creating distinctive experience for local customers.
Currently, in order to accelerate Japan’s electrification transition, the Japanese government has set a target to achieve a 100% EV penetration rate in domestic passenger car sales by 2035. Meanwhile, The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has doubled its previous goal of installing electric vehicle chargers from 150,000 units to 300,000 units by 2030, underscoring Japan’s dedication to expanding its EV charging infrastructure.
From 2025 onward, The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will also require new condominiums to incorporate a specified level of EV charger installations. The salient and intense incentives is stimulating the adoption of EV and fostering the development of e-mobility.
