The expression mentioned in the title is often used when talking about this immense country, butthere are examples thatexplain the reason for this statement.
On the occasion of themeeting with Klaus Zyciora at the Changan R&D Center in the city of Chongqing, theGlobal Head of Changan Designdemonstratedhis pragmatism and clarity of ideasin several concepts and also in responding to certain questions from the group of journalists.
At the beginning of his presentation, he said:
This is the heart of Changan Automobile design, at least for the moment. Because the new center, which is just a few meters from here… basically across the street, is under construction. The inauguration of this new research and development facility is planned for May of next year, but I would like to focus on this to help you understand why China is another world –said the German Chief Designer, adding– This new center began to be built in December of last year. In Germany, to build something like this it takes at least 5 or 6 months to discuss whether to build it or not and where to put it. Another 5 or 6 months for the respective permits and obviously to inform and get the ok of everyone on board and continue the project, having to explain many things to the company’s management board. And after all these steps, work can begin on the actual construction of the building, so if everything goes well, a total time of about 5 years –he concluded.
Zyciora also highlighted another aspect of his work in Chagan andthe time required to develop projects.
At this speed, you cannot stop for a minute. The designers must always be ready to develop new ideas and things and to consult with management to understand if all this aligns with the company’s strategic and development plans. This puts you under a lot of pressure, but it is also the charm of our work –he concluded.
