De Silvestro: “I problemi di affidabilità sono risolvibili, ma ci vorrà del tempo”

Non è stato l’inizio ideale di stagione per Simona de Silvestro con problemi di affidabilità che ostacolano il progresso della squadra nei test pre-campionato a Donington Park. Ma il driver Andretti ha appena firmato, sponsorizzato da Amlin, e crede che i problemi saranno risolti in tempo …
Prima di tutto congratulazioni per unirti al team Andretti per la seconda stagione di Formula E. Tuttavia, è stato un inizio frustrante finora nei test di pre-stagione. Che cosa ti ha impedito di scendere in pista?
“Per lo più sono stati problemi di software e cose del genere. È sicuramente un po ‘frustrante per tutti noi, ma questo è il motorsport ed a volte bisogna affrontare queste situazioni e si deve lavorare sodo per uscirne. E’ risolvibile per certo, ma ci vuole solo tempo”.
Sarà difficile adattarsi alle condizioni che troverete a Pechino?
“Non è l’ideale, ma ho esperienza in monoposto e in circuito su strade delle città, ma ogni volta che si è in una macchina da corsa non è così buono. Si impara ogni volta che si sale in macchina, ma questa è la situazione in cui ci troviamo e cercheremo di fare del nostro meglio per uscirne”.
Pensi che l’esperienza che avete guadagnato a Londra aiuterà nonostante la mancanza di uscite in pista?
“E’ difficile da dire in questo momento perché non siamo stati in grado di fare quello che avevamo programmato. Abbiamo molto lavoro davanti a noi, ma sapete che ho apprezzato l’evento a Londra. Le vetture sono difficili da guidare, la serie è davvero competitiva e questo è qualcosa per cui non vedo l’ora di iniziare questa stagione. Dove siamo adesso non è la situazione ideale, ma il team sta lavorando molto duramente per trovare i problemi”.
Come senti la macchina rispetto allo scorso anno con la modifica dei regolamenti?
“E’ difficile dire considerando la mancanza di giri in pista, ma penso che sia un netto miglioramento. Penso che qualsiasi serie di sviluppi si suppone che sia meglio di anno in anno e, a volte si deve appianare i nodi per arrivarci. Una volta che saremo dove vogliamo essere credo che sarà meglio di prima”.
Che cosa significa per te far parte di questa serie?
“E’ veramente speciale far parte della Formula E soprattutto perché si tratta di un nuovo campionato e il talento è molto alto in tutti i piloti della categoria. Non vedo l’ora di inziare questa stagione e di essere parte di questa nuova tecnologia, è fantastico essere una parte del percorso”.
Gli ultimi due giorni di test pre-stagione di Formula E si svolgeranno a Donington Park il lunedi 24 e martedì 25 agosto.

It hasn’t been the ideal start to the season for Simona de Silvestro with reliability problems hampering the team’s progress in pre-season testing at Donington Park. But the newly-signed Andretti driver, sponsored by Amlin, believes the issues will be resolved in time…
First of all congratulations on joining Andretti for the second season of Formula E. However, it’s been a frustrating start to pre-season testing so far. What has prevented you from running on track?
It’s mostly software issues and things like that. It’s definitely a little bit frustrating for all of us but that’s motorsport and sometimes you face these situations but you have to work hard to get out of it. It’s fixable for sure but it just takes time.
Will it be difficult to adjust to the conditions you will find in Beijing?
It’s not ideal but I’ve got experience in single-seaters and street tracks but any time you are out of a race car it’s not so good. You learn every time you step in the car but this is the situation we find ourselves in and we’ll try our best to get out of it.
Do you think the experience you gained in London will help despite the lack of running?
It’s hard to say right now because we haven’t been able to do what we planned. We have a lot of work ahead of us but you know I enjoyed the event in London. The cars are tricky to drive and the series is really competitive and that’s something I’m looking forward to this season. Where we are right now we’re not in the perfect situation but the team is working really hard to find the problems.
What does the car feel like compared to last year with the change in regulations?
It’s hard to tell from the lack of running but I think it’s a clear step improvement. I think any series with developments is supposed to be better year-on-year and sometimes you have to iron out the kinks to get there. Once we get where we want to be I think it will be better than before.
What does it mean to you to be part of this series?
It’s really special to be part of Formula E especially because it’s a new championship and the talent is really high throughout the grid. I’m looking forward to this season and being part of this new technology, it’s fantastic to be a part of the journey.
The final two days of Formula E pre-season testing take place at Donington Park on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 August.
