Siamo estremamente delusi dai risultati finali qui in Messico.

Robin Frijns

Partenza: 14 // Arrivo: 11 // Classifica: 16 (8 punti)

La gara non è andata male. Abbiamo iniziato in P14 e siamo partiti piuttosto bene.

Felix Da Costa

Partenza: 6 // Arrivo: DNF // Classifica: 12 (10 punti)

Mexico City ePrix Race Report

It was a beautiful weekend at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. Both Antonio Felix da Costa and Robin Frijns showed flashes of speed during the free practice sessions and the team had high hopes moving into qualifying. da Costa put together a solid effort on his fast lap and qualified P8 while Frijns made a few small errors and qualified 17th. To the benefit of MS Amlin Andretti, multiple teams received penalties post-qualifying which bumped Frijns up to P14 and da Costa up to P6.

da Costa picked up some extra momentum by winning the afternoon’s eRace in front of a large and passionate crowd in eVillage. The team was then paid an unexpected visit by celebrity Paris Hilton, who took time to take photos with the crew and learn how sustainability and electric technology is helping to shape the future of racing.

Once the race started, da Costa got caught in traffic on Lap 1 and had to escape to a runoff, losing seven spots. He fought hard and was able to work his way back to P6 before a mechanical issue forced him to retire early. Frijns had a fast car and made his way all the way to P5 before having to serve a drive-through penalty for not meeting the minimum required pit stop time. He was able to gain spots after the penalty but finished just outside the points in P11.

From Mexico City, the FIA Formula E Championship starts its Europe swing with Round 5 of competition in Monaco on May 13.

We are largely disappointed with the end result here in Mexico. We had a mechanical issue on Antonio’s car which was was the luck of racing and unfortunately for Robin, we had a miscommunication on the minimum pit stop time. We executed to what we thought and understood to be correct but it was obviously wrong. We are very disappointed for both Robin and Antonio, they both drove a great race. We had an aggressive strategy and on race day we executed it to plan but unfortunately on the operations side it didn’t go the way we wanted it to. We’ve made some good progress with the operational aspects of the race team and we have to take the positives with the negatives. We look forward to putting that into practice in Monaco in a few weeks time.

Robin Frijns

Start: 14 // Finish: 11 // Standing: 16 (8 points)

The race went pretty well. We started P14 and felt quite comfortable. I was behind Antonio after a few laps because he made a mistake. I felt like I was quicker than the cars in front of me but it is hard to overtake on the front stretch. Then the team made a mistake in the pit stop, we went three seconds quicker than was allowed so we got a drive-through penalty. Without the penalty we could have finished P4 or P5 so it was definitely a disappointment.

Felix Da Costa

Start: 6 // Finish: DNF // Standing: 12 (10 points)

We had a much better weekend, in terms of pace, than Buenos Aires. The homework we did helped a lot and we came here better prepared which means we are learning from our mistakes and doing what we have to do to compete. We were much more competitive in qualifying and started sixth which was a good place to start. We had a good race car even though I made a mistake in the first lap and we lost a few positions. I was able to come back and had good pace, so I passed a lot of guys on track. After the pit stop, we were looking good for a Top 5 finish and then I’m not sure what happened but we had a mechanical failure and I was forced to come in. We seem to be going through a tough time right now but as a team we will come back much stronger in Monaco.
