Punta del Este, Uruguay. 19 dicembre 2015. La Mahindra Racing Formula E Team ha avuto una frustrante gita al Punta del Este ePrix con Oliver Rowland finendo al 13esimo posto e Bruno Senna ritirato dalla gara. Il team si propone di riconquistare lo slancio delle gare di apertura e di fare una buona prestazione nel prossimo turno di Buenos Aires.

Bruno Senna si è qualificato nono ed ha guadagnato una posizione al primo giro della gara, ma un contatto con il muro lo costrinse a rientrare ai box con una gomma posteriore bucata, facendolo cadere sul retro della classifica quando è ritornato in azione. Si è ritirato dalla corsa a cinque giri dalla fine a causa di problemi di freno.

Oliver Rowland si è qualificato in 16esima posizione ed è finito 13esimo.

Bruno Senna ha dichiarato:

“E’ deludente dover ritirarsi dalla gara. La macchina andava bene in qualifica ed all’inizio della gara. Abbiamo recuperato bene da una mattinata difficile e se non avessi avuto il contatto con il muro, sono fiducioso che avremmo continuato a superare diversi rivali ed andare avanti. Una volta che è stato chiaro che non saremo riusciti a catturare il gruppo, il team ha deciso di spingere per il giro più veloce in modo da recuperare alcuni punti, ma la frenata non era buona ed è stata la decisione giusta quella di ritirare la macchina”.

“Ho avuto qualche giorno meraviglioso a Punta del Este. I sudamericani appassionati di corse sono alcuni tra i più appassionati in tutto il mondo ed è stato emozionante guidare in questo circuito veloce, sfidandosi di nuovo in pista. Questo è motorsport e ci aspettiamo di avere giorni difficili. Ora dobbiamo imparare dai problemi che abbiamo avuto e continuare a perfezionare l’auto. Sappiamo che con un fine settimana pulito, ci sarà di nuovo la possibilità di raggiungere la parte anteriore della griglia”.

Oliver Rowland ha detto:

“Ho apprezzato il mio primo fine settimana di Formula E. C’è stato molto da imparare circa la tecnologia e le procedure di gara ed è stato una piacevole esperienza per me. La macchina andava bene in qualifiche e senza lo slittamento nel settore finale sul mio giro di qualifica, avrei iniziato nella top ten.

Come pilota, è sempre frustrante non usare il pieno potenziale della vettura, ma il grip non era buono in gara”.

“Questo weekend è stato l’apertura degli occhi per me. La Formula E è una sfida da molto vicino ed è una serie che i piloti veramente assaporano. Mi è piaciuto guidare la M2Electro. Mahindra ha costruito delle auto impressionanti ed è stato bello vedere in prima persona la passione che entrambi i tifosi ed i piloti hanno per questo sport”.

Dilbagh Gill, Team Principal e CEO di Mahindra Racing Formula E Team ha detto:

“Come conclusione finale, questa può essere una corsa da dimenticare, ma abbiamo imparato molto da questa esperienza. La squadra ha lavorato senza sosta per continuare lo sviluppo della M2Electro e spingere per avere dei risultati che ci aspettiamo da ciò che sappiamo ed è un pacchetto affidabile e veloce”.

“Abbiamo anche imparato molto dal feedback che Oliver Rowland ci ha dato e che sarà prezioso per le prossime gare. Lavoreremo per tornare più forti ed il lavoro inizia adesso. Abbiamo progettato un programma per fare la maggior parte del nostro tempo in pista nei test ufficiali della Formula E di domani”.

A race to learn from in Punta del Este

Punta del Este, Uruguay 19th December 2015. The Mahindra Racing Formula E Team had a frustrating outing in the Punta del Este ePrix with Oliver Rowland finishing in 13th place and Bruno Senna retiring from the race. The team intends to regain the momentum of the opening races and target a strong performance in the next round in Buenos Aires.

Bruno Senna qualified ninth and gained a position on the first lap of the race but contact with the wall forced him to pit with a punctured rear tyre, dropping him to the back of the pack when he rejoined the action. He retired from the race with five laps remaining due to brake issues. Oliver Rowland qualified in 16th position and finished 13th.

Bruno Senna said:

“It is disappointing to have to retire from the race. The car felt good in qualifying and at the start of the race. We recovered well from a difficult morning and if I hadn’t made contact with the wall, I am confident we would have continued to overtake and move forward. Once it was clear we wouldn’t catch the pack, the team decided that we would push for the fastest lap to recover some points but the braking was not right and it was the correct decision to retire the car.”

“I have had a wonderful few days in Punta del Este. The South American race fans are some of the most passionate in the world and it has been thrilling to drive this fast, challenging track again. This is motorsport and we expect to have tough days. Now we must learn from the issues we had and continue to refine the car. We know that with a clean weekend, we will be back at the front of the grid.”

Oliver Rowland said:

“I enjoyed my first Formula E weekend. There has been a lot to learn about the technology and the race procedures and it has been an enjoyable experience for me. The car felt good in qualifying and without the slide in the final sector on my qualifying lap, I would have started in the top ten.

As a driver, it is always frustrating not to release the full potential of the car but the grip just wasn’t there in the race.”

“This weekend has been eye opening for me. Formula E creates close, challenging racing and is a series the drivers really relish. I enjoyed driving the M2Electro. Mahindra have built and impressive car and it has been great to see first hand the passion that both fans and drivers have for this sport.”

“In terms of the final result, this may be a race to put behind us but we have learned a lot from this experience. The team has worked flat out to continue the development of the M2Electro and push for the results we expect from what we know is a quick, reliable package.”

“We have also learned a lot from the feedback Oliver Rowland has given and that will be invaluable in the next races. We will work to come back stronger and that work begins right now. We have designed a programme to make the most of our track time in tomorrow’s official FIA Formula E test.”
