Buenos Aires, Argentina. 6 Febbraio 2016. La quarta prova del campionato 2015/16 del FIA Formula E Championship ha visto la squadra NEXTEV TCR concludere un arrivo a punti per le strade della cosmopolita capitale argentina, dopo i 35 giri del Buenos Aires ePrix. Oliver Turvey ha conquistato due punti in campionato finendo al nono posto. Nelson Piquet Jr. è giunto al traguardo in 12 ° posizione.

Oliver è stato sorgettiagno nel quarto turno di qualificazione, ottenendo il miglior tempo in 1: 10,126, allineandosi all’11eciso posto sulla griglia di partenza. Al primo giro ha superato Jerome D’Ambrosio e Daniel Abt arrivando alla nona posizione e poi ha sorpassato Nelson raggiungendo l’ottavo posto al terzo giro. Dopo il giro di pit-stop si è trovato 11esimo, ma è stato promosso al decimo quando Mike Conway ha fatto un testacoda al giro 25. Nel giro finale ha superato Bruno Senna riuscendo quindi a prendere la bandiera a scacchi in nona posizione e l’affermazione del team di riuscire a finire nei punti per la terza volta in questa stagione.

Nelson è stato sorteggiato nel terzo girone di qualificazione e con un tempo di 1: 09,931, si è assicurato la quinta fila di partenza con il non tempo, miglior risultato in qualifica della NEXTEV TCR della stagione. Il team ha deciso di far correre Nelson con una strategia diversa, optando per la modalità del massimo risparmio energetico nella sua prima macchina per consentirgli fermarsi ai box dopo gli altri, fatto che a sua volta doveva consentire un secondo stint più aggressivo. La strategia purtroppo non ha pagato a causa dell’uscita della safety car nella seconda parte di gara e Nelson ha finito la gara in 12esima posizione.

Oliver Turvey (auto # 88):

“Oggi in qualifica, il mio giro non è stato perfetto, ma per essere più vicino al top è incoraggiante e ci ha dato la posizione per lottare in gara. A partire dal 11esimo posto sapevo che avevamo una buona occasione per ottenere punti e ho fatto una buona partenza ed sono arrivato fino all’ottavo posto nel primo stint. Da parte nostra la strategia ha funzionato bene e siamo stati in grado di fare la maggior parte di quello previsto. Il pitstop è stato un po’ un peccato perché ho perso tempo e avremmo finito un po’ più in alto, ma segnare più punti per la squadra è un buon risultato”.

Nelson Piquet Jr. (auto # 1):

“Abbiamo provato un paio di cose, alcune dei quali hanno funzionato ed alcune altre non, e così ho perso un sacco di tempo, all’inizio a causa di quello che stavamo cercando di realizzare. La cosa positiva è che stiamo cercando molte cose nuove e fare un po’ di tentativi ed errori sono cose che capitano ma dobbiamo farlo considerando la posizione in cui ci troviamo. La squadra sta continuando a lavorare sodo e la nostra attenzione è ora sulla prossima gara in Messico”.

Steven Lu, Team Principal, NEXTEV TCR:

“E’ stata una buona giornata per noi. Le qualifiche sono state incoraggianti e abbiamo segnato due punti con il risultato di Oliver. Le nostre auto sono in forma migliore rispetto all’inizio della stagione e lavoreremo per migliorare i problemi che abbiamo sofferto con la macchina di Nelson. Ora il nostro obiettivo è la prossima gara in Messico, dove vogliamo continuare a migliorare in qualifica e ridurre il divario dalle squadre più veloci. Buon Capodanno cinese!”

Buenos Aires, Argentina. 6 February 2016. The fourth round of the 2015/16 FIA Formula E Championship saw the NEXTEV TCR team clinch a points finish on the streets of Argentina’s cosmopolitan capital, in the 35-lap Buenos Aires ePrix. Oliver Turvey picked up two championship points finishing ninth. Nelson Piquet Jr finished in 12th position.

Oliver competed in qualifying group four, setting a best lap of 1:10.126, lining up 11th on the start grid. On the first lap he passed Jerome D’Ambrosio and Daniel Abt to move into ninth and then passed Nelson for eighth on lap three. After the round of pitstops he found himself in 11th, but was promoted to tenth when Mike Conway spun on lap 25. On the final lap he passed Bruno Senna to take the chequered flag in ninth and claim the team’s third points finish of the season.

Nelson was drawn in qualifying group three and set a fastest lap of 1:09.931, securing a fifth row start from 9th, NEXTEV TCR’s best qualifying result of the season. The team decided to run Nelson on a different strategy, opting for maximum energy saving mode in his first car to enable him to pit later, which in turn should allow a more aggressive second stint. The strategy unfortunately did not pay off due to the deployment of the safety car in the second part of the race and Nelson finished the race in 12th position

Oliver Turvey (Car #88):

“Today in qualifying, my lap wasn’t perfect, but to be closer to the front is encouraging and it gave us the position to fight in the race. Starting from 11th I knew we had a good chance to get points and I made a good start and was up to eighth on the first lap. From our side the strategy worked out well and we were able to make the most of it. The pitstop was a bit of a shame because I lost time and we would have finished a bit higher. To score more points for the team is a good result.”

Nelson Piquet Jr (Car #1):

“We tried a few things, some of which worked and some didn’t, and so I lost a lot of ground at the beginning because of what we were trying to accomplish. The positive thing is that we’re trying lots of new things and doing a bit of trial and error and we have to do that in the position we are in. The team is continuing to work really hard and our focus is now on the next race in Mexico.”

Steven Lu, Team Principal, NEXTEV TCR:

“It was a good day for us. Qualifying was encouraging and we scored two points with Oliver’s result. Our cars are in better shape compared to the beginning of the season and we will work to improve on the problems we suffered with Nelson’s car. Now our focus is on the next race in Mexico where we want to continue the improvement in qualifying and reduce the gap to the faster teams. Happy Chinese New Year!”
