Parigi, Francia. 23 Aprile 2016. La FIA Formula E Championship ha viaggiato a Parigi, Francia per il Round 7 della serie internazionale. Questa è stata la prima volta che si è tenuto una gara su strada a Parigi per la Formula E. Le azioni di gara si sono tenute il sabato, dopo la chiusura della strada che è avvenuta nel tardo Venerdì, costringendo la serie a rinunciare al suo solito  Shakedown del Venerdì.

Il Team Andretti Formula E ha iniziato bene la giornata. Il pilota Robin Frijns era davanti, segnando tempi tra i primi cinque in entrambe le sessioni di prove libere. Dopo essere stato sorteggiato nel gruppo due in qualifica, Frijns sperava di vedere finalmente il suo tempo sul giro tra i primi cinque e fare la sua prima apparizione in Super Pole. Ma, ahimè è stato spinto ad una sesta posizione da Sam Bird che era nel Gruppo Quattro di qualificazione.

In gara, Frijns è finito settimo, dopo aver raggiunto la sesta posizone durante la gara. Simona de Silvestro, pur essendo malata, era nella top 10 nelle prove. De Silvestro era decima in qualifica alla fine del gruppo tre, ma i tempi di qualificazioni dei piloti del gruppo quattro l’hanno mandata giù da una possibile miglior qualifica della stagione, essendo costretta ad iniziare dal 12esimo posto. De Silvestro è finita 15esima dopo un inizio difficile.

Il Team Andretti di Formula E correrà la prossima gara a Berlino, in Germania per il Round 8 della serie il 21 maggio.

“Robin ancora una volta è mancato il gruppo della Super Pole per solo 65 centesimi di secondo. Molto vicino, ma almeno ci stiamo mantenendo in queste posizoni e questo è incoraggiante”, ha detto Griffiths. “Simona ha avuto una delle sue migliori qualifiche fino ad oggi e c’è stato un grande lavoro da lei. Le condizioni erano difficili essendoci molto freddo, solo portare le gomme in temperatura è stato impegnativo. Le condizioni di freddo hanno davvero portato entrambi i piloti ad un inizio difficile, perdendo posizioni.

“Robin è stato in grado di recuperare, da quella che era la posizione prima del suo cambio macchina. È stato tenuto un po’ in corsia box con Simona che entrava proprio mentre lui stava uscendo. Così ha perso una posizione. Ha fatto uno stint davvero intelligente sorpassando molta gente in pista, non credo che sapremo mai esattamente cosa sarebbe successo alla fine se non fosse uscita la safety car, ma penso che potrebbe essere stata una fine davvero emozionante… Robin era in buona posizione per lo stato di energia in modo che forse avremmo potuto guadagnare un altro posto o forse altri due.

“Simona è probabilmente delusa con un finale al 15esimo posto. Lei si è toccata con un rookie della serie ed ha avuto un piccolo danno alla partenza, ma ha portato a casa la macchina. Purtroppo, ha finito al di fuori dei punti. E’ stato un week-end incredibile a Parigi. L’organizzatore qui ha superato tutte le nostre aspettative così non vediamo l’ora di tornare l’anno prossimo”.

Partenza al sesto posto e finale al settimo nel Round 7 della Formula E.

Frijns ha perso posizioni alla partenza della gara, ricadendo al nono posto. Ha combattuto fino ad arrivare al settimo mantenendo un buon risparmio energetico, ma una bandiera gialla ha interrotto la sua rimonta verso il top della classifica.

“La partenza è stata davvero brutta. Ho perso tre posti”, ha detto Frijns. “Sono stato ricompattato in mezzo a due auto. Ho cercato di fare la mia gara in rimonta ed ho superato due auto nel mio primo stint. Poi, proprio prima del mio pit-stop ho guadagnato un altro posto, ma poi l’abbiamo perso nella pit lane, penso che abbiamo bisogno di guardare a questo.

“Stavo lottando molto con la seconda vettura. Semplicemente non avevo il ritmo e ho avuto problemi in particolare con la frenata. Non so qual sia il problema, ma si provvederà a controllare alcuni dati e vedere cosa succede per la prossima gara. Abbiamo segnato punti e questa è la cosa più importante.”

Partenza al 12esimo e arrivo al 15esimo nel Round 7 della Formula E.

De Silvestro ha perso posizioni all’inizio e non era in grado di sorpassare le auto davanti a lei senza spendere molto più energia.

“La giornata è andata davvero bene”, ha detto de Silvestro. “Nelle qualifiche, ho fatto un piccolo errore e avrei potuto iniziare in ottava posizione, che sarebbe stato meglio. All’inizio ho avuto un enorme slittamento delle ruote e in quel momento ho perso posizoni, credo sono finita al 15esimo posto. Da lì, sono stata bloccata dietro qualcuno che stava usando più energia e non avrebbe potuto cavarsela a quel ritmo, ma che ci ha messo in difficoltà. A parte ciò, la vettura era abbastanza buona. Il team ha fatto un buon lavoro come al solito, ma purtroppo sempre manca qualcosa, da qualche parte, quindi speriamo che la prossima volta ci sia tutto insieme”.

La prossima gara di Formula E sarà a Berlino, Germania, il Round 8 il 21 maggio 2016.

Paris, France. 23^rd April 2016. The FIA Formula E Championship traveled to Paris, France for Round 7 of the international series. This was the first time Paris has held a street race for Formula E. Race action was packed into Saturday after road closures were unable to occur until late Friday, forcing the series to forgo its usual Friday Shakedown.

The Andretti Formula E Team began the day strong. Driver Robin Frijns was running up front, battling it out in the top five in both practice sessions. After drawing for Group Two in qualifying Frijns hoped to finally see his lap time stick in the top five and give him his first Super Pole appearance. But alas he was pushed to a sixth place starting position by Group Four qualifier Sam Bird. In the race, Frijns went on to finish seventh, after running as high as sixth. Simona de Silvestro, despite being ill, was running in the top 10 through practice. de Silvestro was qualified 10th by the end of Group Three but Group Four qualifiers knocked her out of a possible season best qualifying effort, she started 12th overall. de Silvestro went on to finish 15th after a rough start dropped her back.

The Andretti Formula E Team next competes in Berlin, Germany for Round 8 of the Formula E series on 21 May.

“Robin once again missed out on making the Super Pole group again, by 65 one-hundredths of a second. Really close, but at least we’re keeping him close and that’s encouraging,” Griffiths said. “Simona had one of her best qualifying to date and that was a great job by her. The conditions were difficult with it being very cold, just getting tires up to temperature was challenging. The cold conditions really led to both drivers having poor starts, losing positions.

“Robin was able to recover from that, making up positions prior to his car change. He was held up a little in the pit lane with Simona coming in just as he was exiting. So he lost a position there. He drove a really smart race and passed people on the race track. I don’t think we’ll ever know what exactly would have happened at the end if we didn’t have the caution. I think it could have been really exciting at the end; Robin was in good position in energy status so maybe we could have picked up another spot or two.

“Simona is probably disappointed with a 15th place finish. She got caught up with a rookie in the series and sustained a little damage at the start, but she brought the car home. Unfortunately, she finished outside of points. It’s been an incredible weekend in Paris. The organizer here surpassed all our expectations so we’re looking forward to coming back next year.”

Started sixth and finished seventh for Round 7 of Formula E competition.

Frijns lost position at the start of the race, falling back to ninth.

Fought back to seventh all while conserving energy but a late yellow flag ended his progression to the front.

“The start was really bad. I lost three places I think,” Frijns said. “I was bunched up in the middle between two cars. I tried to make my way back and took over two cars in my first stint. Then just before my pit stop took one more. We lost that position in the pit lane, so I think we need to look at that.

“I was struggling a lot with the second car. It just didn’t have the pace and I had issues with braking especially. I don’t know what the issue is but we will check some data and see what happens for the next race. We scored points and that’s the most important thing.”

Started 12th and finished 15th for Round 7 of Formula E competition.

de Silvestro lost position on the start and was unable to maneuver her way around the cars in front of her without over spending energy.

“The day was actually alright,” de Silvestro said. “Qualifying, I made a little bit of a mistake and could have started P8, which would have been better. At the start I had huge wheel spin and that put us really behind because I dropped back to 15th I think. From there, I was stuck behind someone who was using more energy and couldn’t really get by and that put us back a little more. But definitely the start put us back quite a bit. Other than that, the car was pretty good. Team did a good job as usual. It just has to come together. We are always missing something, somewhere, so hopefully next time it will come together.”

The FIA Formula E Championship next heads to Berlin, Germany for Round 8 of competition on 21 May 2016.
