Negli anni ’60, General Motors ha presentato un veicolo alimentato da celle a combustibile, ai tempi una tecnologia futuristica utilizzata in astronautica.

Il Concept Car Chevrolet Electrovan a celle a combustibile è stato presentato nel 1966, costruito sulla base di una Chevrolet Corvair ed ancora oggi perfettamente funzionante.

Le fuel cell alcaline del prototopo vengono alimentate da idrogeno liquido ed ossigeno stoccati nei serbatoi presurizzati e sono in grado di erogare 32 kW di potenza e di offrire alla Chevrolet Electrovan un’autonomia di circa 90 km.

As early as the late 1960s,General Motors was the first automaker to present a drivable vehicle based on futuristic fuel cell technology. The Chevrolet Electrovan, introduced in 1966 and still roadworthy today,was based on the Chevrolet Corvair. Its alkali fuel cell is supplied with liquid hydrogen and oxygen from pressurized tanks, generating 32 kW of power and giving the Electrovan a range of about 90 kilometers.
