Londra, Gran Bretagna. 15 marzo 2016. Una breve cerimonia ha accolto con favore l’arrivo sulle strade di Londra di una prima mondiale – l’autobus elettrico a due piani completamente privo di emissioni appositamente progettato e sviluppato per Transport for London (TfL) da BYD.
Tenutosi al City Hall, l’evento ha visto l’Assessore all’ambiente e l’energia di Londra Matthew Pencharz formalmente ricevere il primo autobus da Isbrand Ho, Direttore Generale di BYD Europa. Questo veicolo è uno di una flotta di cinque, che entreranno presto in servizio sulla Route 98 operando per conto di TfL per Metroline. BYD sta lavorando con TfL e Metroline su un programma di introduzione che comprende la formazione del conducente e l’installazione di apparecchiature di ricarica veloce al Metroline Willesden Bus Garage nel nord di Londra.
Il bus è stato al 100% progettato e sviluppato da BYD, il veicolo è lungo 10,2 m, dispone di aria condizionata e offre posti a sedere per un totale di 54 passeggeri con altri 27 posti in piedi (gli spazi passeggeri totale: 81). Le batterie al ferro fosfato BYD offrono 345 kWh di energia e possono funzionare per fino a 190 miglia di autonomia in modo di guida tipico urbano secondo le condizioni di prova SORT riconosciute a livello internazionale. La ricarica avviene in solo quattro ore e può essere completata durante la notte utilizzando l’elettricità a basso costo rispetto quella delle ore di punta. Questo è più che sufficiente per gestire la maggior parte dei cicli giornalieri.
“Il sindaco di Londra ci ha sfidato dicendo che non credeva fosse fattibile il bus elettrico a due piani, ma BYD ha raccolto la sfida e in meno di due anni ha creato il bus che i londinesi possono vedere oggi”, ha detto Isbrand Ho, Direttore Generale di BYD Europa. “Questo non è un autobus ibrido, ma un prodotto totalmente a zero emissioni che darà a Londra una posizione nel mondo nei suoi sforzi per migliorare la qualità dell’aria”.
Leon Daniels, amministratore delegato di TfL per Trasporti di superficie, ha dichiarato:
“BYD è un fornitore brillante. Portano nel mondo la tecnologia dei bus elettrici e li ringraziamo per il loro impegno per rendere questo nuovo double decker una realtà”.

London, UK. 15th March 2016. A short ceremony this afternoon welcomed the arrival on London streets of a global first – a completely emissions free pure electric double decker especially designed and developed for Transport for London (TfL) by BYD.%
Held at City Hall, the event saw Deputy Mayor of London for Environment and Energy Matthew Pencharz formally receive the first bus from Isbrand Ho, Managing Director of BYD Europe. This vehicle is one of a fleet of five which will shortly be entering service on Route 98 operated on behalf of TfL by Metroline. BYD is working with TfL and Metroline on an introduction programme which includes driver training and the installation of fast charging equipment at Metroline’s Willesden Bus Garage in north London.
The 100% BYD designed and developed vehicle is 10.2 m long, features full air conditioning and offers seats for a total 54 passengers with a further 27 standees spaces (total passengers: 81). The BYD iron phosphate batteries deliver 345 kWh of power and can run for up to 190 miles of typical urban driving according to the internationally recognised SORT test conditions. Recharging takes just four hours and can be completed overnight using low cost off peak electricity. This is more than enough to handle most daily duty cycles.
“The Mayor of London challenged us saying that he did not believe an electric double decker was technically feasible but we took up the challenge and in less than two years created the bus Londoners can see today”, said Isbrand Ho, Managing Director of BYD Europe. “This is not a hybrid bus but a totally emissions free product which will give London a world leading position in its efforts to improve air quality”.
