Il nostro obiettivo del nuovo anno è pronto da luglio: finire il giro del mondo che abbiamo iniziato nel marzo 2015.

I voli di prova inizieranno alle Hawaii nel mese di febbraio, prima che l’aereo sia pronto a decollare alla fine di aprile.

E dopo? Solar Impulse 2 attraverserà il resto del Pacifico, gli Stati Uniti, l’Atlantico, l’Europa, prima di approdare ad Abu Dhabi, la nostra città ospitante.

A causa del clima sempre più imprevedibile, ci saranno molte improvvisazioni lungo la strada, ma questo è anche ciò che renderà l’avventura così stimolante!

Honolulu, Hawaii. USA. 22 Gennaio 2016. Siamo arrivati a gennaio, il che significa che è meglio avere pronta la risposta per la domanda temuta: “Quali sono i vostri piani per il nuovo anno?”

Non so voi, ma la nostra risposta è impaziente dall’attesa dallo scorso luglio: “finire il tour del mondo che abbiamo iniziato a marzo 2015! ”

I nostri ingegneri e tecnici stanno sostituendo le batterie dell’aereo nelle Hawaii e Solar Impulse 2 dovrebbe cominciare a svegliarsi alla fine di febbraio.

Date principali per il 2016

Fine febbraio: inizio dei voli di prova nelle Hawaii

20 aprile: prima possibile decollo per la seconda parte del Round-the-World Tour, a seconda delle condizioni climatiche

Un giorno d’estate: sbarco ad Abu Dhabi, dove Solar Impulse 2 aveva decollato lo scorso anno!

Dove si fermerà l’aereo?

L’anno scorso, avevamo programmato quelle città dove volevamo sbarcare, ma non è stato sempre facile seguire il percorso iniziale. Ci siamo resi conto che i modelli climatici annuali sono meno affidabili di quelli di una volta e che le condizioni sono sempre più imprevedibili. Abbiamo quindi deciso di tenere aperte le nostre opzioni per la seconda parte dell’avventura e scegliere dove mettere piede a seconda di come andiamo. Il che ci porta alla seguente tabella di marcia:

Decollo: Honolulu, Hawaii

Prima tappa: Vancouver, in Canada, o San Francisco, Stati Uniti d’America, o Los Angeles, Stati Uniti d’America, o Phoenix, Stati Uniti d’America

Attraversamento degli Stati Uniti dalla parte del nord, centrale o meridionale

Atterraggio a New York, Stati Uniti d’America

Attraversamento dell’Atlantico

Atterraggio da qualche parte tra il Regno Unito, la Francia, la Spagna o il Marocco

Probabili fermate in Grecia, Egitto o Arabia Saudita

Atterraggio finale: Abu Dhabi, Emirati Arabi Uniti

Our new year’s resolution has been ready since July: finish the Round-The-World tour we started in March 2015.

Test flights will begin in Hawaii in February, before the plane is ready to take off at the end of April.

And from there? Solar Impulse 2 will cross the rest of the Pacific, the United States, the Atlantic, Europe, before landing in Abu Dhabi, our host city.

Due to the increasingly unpredictable weather, there will be a lot of improvisation along the way, but that’s also what will make the adventure so stimulating!

January’s back, which means you better get ready for the dreaded question: “What are your new year’s resolutions?” Don’t know about you, but our answer has been impatiently waiting since last July: “ finish the Round-the-World tour we started in March 2015!”

Our engineers and technicians are currently replacing the plane’s batteries in Hawaii, and Solar Impulse 2 should start to wake up at the end of February. And from then on? Main dates for 2016

End of February: beginning of the test flights in Hawaii

20th of April: first possible takeoff for the second part of the Round-the-World Tour, depending on the weather conditions

Sometime in the summer: landing in Abu Dhabi, where Si2 first took off from last year!

Where will the plane stop?

Last year, we had planned what cities we wanted to land in, but it wasn’t always easy to follow the initial route. We realised that the yearly weather patterns are less trustworthy than they used to be, and that conditions are increasingly unpredictable. We therefore decided to keep our options open for the second part of the adventure and choose where we will set foot as we go. Which leads us to the following roadmap:

Takeoff: Honolulu, Hawaii

First stop: Vancouver, Canada, or San Francisco, USA, or Los Angeles, USA, or Phoenix, USA

Crossing of the United States by the North, middle, or South

Landing in New York, USA

Crossing of the Atlantic

Landing somewhere between the UK, France, Spain or Morocco

Probable stops in Greece, Egypt or Saudi Arabia

Final landing: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

There will be a lot of improvisation along the way – that you’ll be able to follow live on our site! –  www.solarimpulse.com – but that’s also what makes the experience so stimulating. Plus, we’ve got a good feeling about 2016!
