Putrajaya, Malesia. 23 Novembre 2014. Bruno Senna è diventato il primo pilota a beneficiare direttamente dell’interazione dei tifosi nella storia del motorsport quando ha usato il FanBoost per fare un sorpasso al Putrajaya ePrix.

Senna ha utilizzato i 30 kW (40 bhp) per una spinta extra durante cinque secondi per potere passare Nico Prost nella lotta per la quarta posizione alla fine della gara. Senna aveva già in precedenza fatto un tentativo fallito con il sistema nelle prime fasi della gara.

“La prima volta che ho provato era contro Nelson Piquet e non sapevo quanto il FanBoost mi avrebbe dato”, ha detto. “Non ero abbastanza vicino a Nelson e quindi non ho potuto usare correttamente la potenza extra per sorpassarlo”.

“Quando sono arrivato fino a Nico sapevo molto meglio come usarlo, può essere molto utile e sono felice che sia funzionato qui in Malesia, dove ognuno aveva paura che le temperature sarebbero state troppo alte”.

Sia Nick Heidfeld che Katherine Legge – gli altri due vincitori del FanBoost a Putrajaya – avevano concluso le proprie gare concluse a causa del contatto con altri piloti.

Putrajaya, Maleysia. November 23, 2014. Bruno Senna became the first driver to directly benefit from fan interaction in motorsport when he used FanBoost to make an overtaking move in the Putrajaya ePrix.

Senna used the 30kw (40bhp) five-second power boost to pass Nico Prost for fourth position late in the race. He had already previously made one unsuccessful attempt using the system earlier in the race.

“The first time I tried was against Nelson Piquet and I didn’t know how much the FanBoost would give me,” he said. “I wasn’t close enough and Nelson was running very low wing so I couldn’t get properly close to him.

“When I came up to Nico I knew much better how to use it and it can be very useful and I’m happy that it worked here in Malaysia where everybody was afraid that the temperatures were going to be too high.”

Both Nick Heidfeld and Katherine Legge – the other two FanBoost winners – had their races ended early due to contact with other drivers.
