Città del Messico, Messico. 12 Marzo 2016. Dopo una superba esposizione di guida giocata di Lucas Di Grassi, fu poi squalificato dal Città del Messico ePrix dopo una vittoria dominante.

I commissari hanno escluso Lucas di Grassi dalla gara perché la sua auto era sotto il limite minimo di peso da 1.8kg. Squadra ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport ha accettato la decisione, ma sono stati devastati perché hanno buttato via altri 25 punti.

Il Team boss Hans-Jürgen Abt era deluso dal fatto che la macchina fosse risultata sottopeso e si trovò a chiedere scusa a Di Grassi per la seconda volta in quanto ha perso la sua terza vittoria Formula E.

“Ci scusiamo con Lucas per il nostro errore”, ha detto Hans-Jurgen Abt.

Il team ha scelto di non impugnare la decisione perché non vi era alcuna garanzia che la squadra potesse correre la prossima gara a Long Beach tra tre settimane a causa del processo di appello.

La squadra ora inizierà il processo di ricerca di una spiegazione del perché la macchina era sottopeso.

“La macchina è stata pesata più volte qui in Messico e ha superato il peso minimo ogni volta”, spiega Hans-Jürgen Abt.

“Il nostro team non aveva fatto alcuna modifica; non abbiamo alcuna spiegazione per la misurazione dopo la gara. Cercheremo di scoprire il motivo per cui non siamo arrivati al peso minimo. In questo momento, possiamo solo chiedere scusa a Lucas. Ha fatto una grande gara e ha vinto in maniera convincente con più di cinque secondi di vantaggio, ma è stato derubato della sua giusta ricompensa. Faremo tutto il possibile per fare ammenda per questo errore ed avere di nuovo Lucas nella fitta lotta per il titolo”, ha detto Abt.

Il compagno di squadra Daniel Abt ha prodotto una forte performance in Messico. Il tedesco ha disputato la super pole in qualifica e ha iniziato la gara dal quarto posto al fianco di Di Grassi.

Per tutta la gara, Abt ha combattuto nel gruppo di testa ed era sulla strada del suo miglior risultato della stagione, quando ha toccato un muro a pochi giri dalla fine che ha distrutto le sue possibilità di un podio. E’ finito settimo dopo la sua battaglia con la parete.

Mexico City, Mexico. 12^th March 2016. After a superb display of driving skill by Lucas Di Grassi, he was later disqualified from the Mexico eprix after a commanding victory.

The stewards excluded Lucas di Grassi from the race because his car was under the minimum weight limit by 1.8kg. Team ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport accepted the decision but were devastated that they have thrown away another 25 points.

Team Boss Hans-Jürgen Abt was disappointed that the car was found to be underweight and found himself apologising to Di Grassi for a second time as he lost his third Formula E victory.

“We apologize to Lucas for our mistake,” said Hans-Jurgen Abt.

The team chose not to appeal the decision because there was no guarantee that the team could start the next race in Long Beach in three weeks due to the appeal process.

The team now begin the process of looking for an explanation of why the car was underweight.

“The car was weighed several times here in Mexico and exceeded the minimum weight every time,” explains Hans-Jürgen Abt.

“Our team had not made any changes; we have no explanation for the measurement after the race. We will try to find out the reason for not making the minimum weight. At this moment, we can only apologize to Lucas. He drove a great race and won convincingly by more than five seconds, but was robbed of his just reward. We will do everything possible to make amends for this mistake and get Lucas back into the thick of the title fight,” said Abt.

Team mate Daniel Abt produced a strong performance in Mexico. The German made it through to super pole in qualifying and started the race from fourth place alongside Di Grassi.

Throughout the entire race, Abt battled in the leading group and was on the way to his best result of the season when he touched a wall just a few laps before the finish which destroyed his chances of a podium finish. He finished in seventh after his battle with the wall.
