Da Costa correrà con la vettura n° 28 MS Amlin Andretti nel FIA Formula E Championship

Indianapolis, USA. 10 agosto 2016. Il pilota portoghese António Félix da Costa si unirà al team Andretti di Formula E per la prossima stagione. Pilotando l’auto n° 28 MS Amlin Andretti nella terza stagione segnerà un rinnovato rapporto tra Félix da Costa e la compagnia di assicurazione globale MS Amlin.

“Correre in Formula E con il team Andretti è una grande cosa per me”, ha detto Felix da Costa. “Ho sempre amato il modo in cui gli americani fanno le corse, e come fanno lo sport in generale. Sono un grande fan di IndyCar e, per me, Andretti Autosport è sempre stata una squadra iconica. Essere finalmente in grado di dire che sto per raggiungere e correre per questo team e famiglia fantastico è un grosso onore. Abbiamo una grande squadra sul posto, la vettura MS Amlin sembra buona e le persone intorno a me sono super professionali. Sono pronto per iniziare la stagione”.

Charles Philipps, CEO MS Amlin, ha dichiarato:

“Siamo lieti di avere António indietro a guidare per la nostra squadra. Ha dimostrato di essere un favorito con i tifosi e un vincitore nella prima stagione. Siamo entusiasti di vederlo correre con i colori MS Amlin nella terza stagione.”

Félix da Costa ha vinto in Formula E nella stagione inaugurale a Buenos Aires nel gennaio 2015 ed è finito ottavo assoluto al termine della stagione 2014/2015. Félix da Costa ha chiuso al 13° posto nella classifica piloti nella stagione 2015/2016, con Motorsport.com che l’ha piazzato al quarto posto tra i primi 10 piloti della stagione per essersi mantenuto lucido in ogni momento, anche di fronte a tanta sfortuna.

“Siamo molto felici di avere António nel team per la terza stagione.” Ha aggiunto il proprietario del team di Formula E, Michael Andretti. “Mi sento di aggiungere che avremo uno dei più forti piloti in griglia. Abbiamo tenuto d’occhio Antonio nel corso delle ultime due stagioni e sento che è stato molto impressionante in pista. Sarà bello correre con lui, invece di contro di lui.”

Recentemente, Félix da Costa si è preparato per la prossima stagione girando con Andretti Technologies nel TE Connectivity ATEC-002 di Formula E in diverse prove.

“La coppia piloto-ingegnere gioca un ruolo fondamentale nel successo del team di gara”, ha detto Alan Amici, VP di ingegneria automobilistica a TE Connectivity. “In uno sport dove si parla di millisecondi, António ha fornito i nostri tecnici con importanti feedback sulla macchina per migliorare le prestazioni. I progressi tecnologici in combinazione con piloti di talento ci danno grande fiducia, mentre ci prepariamo per l’inizio della stagione.”

Venendo da una famiglia di corse, Felix Da Costa ha iniziato nel karting all’età di nove anni in una serie di campionati portoghesi contro la concorrenza che era molto più anziana. Nel 2007, ha progredito in monoposto in Formula Renault 2.0. Dopo aver ottenuto l’attenzione sia in Formula 3 Euro Series e GP3, è entrato a far parte del programma Red Bull come collaudatore di Formula Uno, dove ha fatto il suo debutto per la Force India nel 2010. António ha segnato una vittoria importante per la BMW Motorsport nella prestigiosa serie di vetture turismo DTM per sostenere un curriculum già impressionante che include la vittoria al Gran Premio di Macao.

Félix da Costa completa il Team Andretti di Formula E per la stagione 2016/2017, unendosi all’olandese Robin Frijns per correre nelle vetture ATEC-002 di nuova concezione.

La terza stagione del FIA di Formula E Championship inizia il 9 ottobre nelle strade di Hong Kong (Cina).

Antonio Felix Da Costa to join Andretti Formula E for season three championship

Indianapolis. USA. August 10th, 2016. Portuguese driver António Félix da Costa will join the Andretti Formula E team for the upcoming FIA Formula E Championship. Piloting the No. 28 MS Amlin Andretti car for Season Three will mark a renewed relationship between Félix da Costa and the global insurance company MS Amlin.

“To join Andretti Formula E is a big thing for me,” said Felix da Costa. “I have always loved the way Americans go racing, and how they do sports in general. I’m a big fan of IndyCar and, to me, Andretti Autosport has always been an iconic team. To finally be able to say that I’m joining and racing for this amazing team and family is a big deal. We have a great team in place, the MS Amlin car looks good and the people around me are super professional. I’m ready to get the season started.”

Charles Philipps, MS Amlin CEO, said, “We are delighted to have António back driving for our team. He proved to be a favourite with the fans and a winner in Season One. We’re excited to see him racing in the MS Amlin colours for Season Three.”

Félix da Costa claimed his maiden Formula E victory in Buenos Aires in January 2015, and went on to finish eighth overall at the end of the 2014/2015 season. Félix da Costa finished the 2015/2016 season ranked 13th in the driver standings, with Motorsport.com placing him fourth overall in the top 10 drivers of the season due to keeping cool at all times even when faced with so much bad luck.

“We’re very excited to have António join the team for Season Three.” Added Andretti Formula E team owner, Michael Andretti. “I feel adding him is going to give us one of the strongest driver line ups in the field. We’ve been watching Antonio over the last two seasons and I feel he has been very impressive on the racetrack. It will be great to be racing with him, instead of against him.”

Most recently, Félix da Costa has been preparing for the coming season by turning laps with Andretti Technologies in the TE Connectivity ATEC-002 Formula E test car.

“The driver-engineer pairing plays an integral role in the success of the race team,” said Alan Amici, VP of automotive engineering at TE Connectivity. “In a sport where milliseconds matter, António has been providing our engineers with important feedback on the car to help improve performance. Technological advancements combined with talented drivers give us great confidence as we prepare for the start of the season.”

Coming from a racing family, Félix Da Costa started karting at the age of nine racing in a number of Portuguese championships against competition who were much older. In 2007, he progressed into single-seaters in Formula Renault 2.0. After gaining attention in both Formula 3 Euro Series and GP3, he joined the Red Bull program as a Formula One test driver where he made his debut for Force India in 2010. António scored a breakthrough victory for BMW Motorsport in the prestigious DTM touring car series to bolster an already impressive CV that includes victory at the Macau Grand Prix.

Félix da Costa completes the Andretti Formula E two-car effort for the 2016/2017 season, joining Dutchman Robin Frijns for competition in the newly developed ATEC-002 all-electric machines. Season Three of the FIA Formula E Championship begins on October 9th on the streets of Hong Kong (CN).
