Un grande giorno per Venturi nel Long Beach ePrix di Formula E

Long Beach, California. USA. 2 aprile 2016. Dopo tante attese e grandi aspettative, Stephane Sarrazin ha chiuso in seconda posizione il Long Beach e-Prix. Il pilota francese della Venturi ha avuto una buona sessione di qualifica Sabato mattina guadagnando un posto nella Superpole per la terza volta in questa stagione. Sarrazin era in 4 ° posizione dietro DaCosta (Aguri), Bird (DS Virgin), e di Grassi (ABT), quando il portoghese Da Costa ha ricevuto una penalità per la bassa pressione degli pneumatici ed è stato inviato al fondo dello schieramento per iniziare la gara, atterrando Sarrazin in terza posizione. E’ stata una giornata molto più difficile per Mike Conway che ha iniziato in 14esima posizione in griglia dopo una sessione di qualifica deludente.

All’inizio della corsa Stéphane ha controllato la sua posizione tenendosi appena dietro di Grassi e Bird. Il team ha fatto un ottimo lavoro scambiando le vetture a metà gara al 21esimo giro e Stéphane è stato in grado di tenere la sua posizione fino al 23esio giro, quando ha superato Bird che ha avuto un problema di frenata nella curva cinque.

“Non voglio restare indietro” – aveva promesso Sarrazin prima della gara e ha mantenuto quella promessa finendo la gara al secondo posto.

Conway ha avuto anche una gara di successo perché è stato in grado di guadagnare un paio di posizioni e terminare la gara nella 10° posizione a punti per la squadra di Venturi.

“Siamo molto felici”, ha detto Stéphane alla fine della gara. “Siamo stati così vicino a una vittoria così tante volte sin dall’inizio della serie Formula E ed oggi è un grande sollievo e una grande gioia. Davvero tutto si è combinato oggi per noi, le mie macchine erano veloci, efficienti, affidabili e la nostra squadra ha fatto un grande lavoro nei box. Ci si sente veramente sorpresi di essere finalmente sul podio. Siamo tutti molto felici -.. e ieri era il compleanno di Gildo e lui ha fatto tanto per questa squadra ed è stato così paziente, quindi è una grande sensazione di essere stato in grado di dimostrare questo a lui”.

Il tempismo non poteva essere migliore per la squadra Venturi di Formula E con sede a Montecarlo per avere entrambi i piloti segnando punti per la prima volta nella stagione 2. Il proprietario del team, Gildo Pastor, era presente con la sua famiglia ed ha raggiunto Venturi dopo aver celebrato il suo compleanno il sabato godendo di questo risultato di oggi vittoria.

“Sono così felice”, ha spiegato Gildo Pastor. “La squadra Venturi ha fatto un ottimo lavoro oggi. Abbiamo sempre saputo che abbiamo un gran motore e un grande powertrain, ma anche che abbiamo una squadra che sta continuando a crescere e imparare in questo specifico ambiente del motorsport. Oggi tutto si è concentrato ed abbiamo raggiunto il nostro primo podio e hanno entrambi i piloti guadagnando punti.

Abbiamo ancora molto da imparare, e una lunga strada da percorrere, ma è davvero bello vedere che siamo competitivi e che il nostro duro lavoro ha dato i suoi frutti. Questa è la seconda volta di fila che Venturi Automobiles, come produttore, è sul podio dopo la vittoria della Dragon Racing in Messico. Complimenti”.

A Great Day for Venturi Formula-E in Long Beach

Long Beach, California. USA. 2^nd April 2016. After long-awaited high expectations for Stephane Sarrazin, he finished in second position in the Long Beach E-Prix.

The Venturi driver from France had a good qualifying session Saturday morning earning a place in the SuperPole for the third time this season. Sarrazin was  in  4th position behind DaCosta (Aguri), Bird (DS Virgin), and DiGrassi (ABT) when the Portuguese Da Costa received a penalty for low tire pressure and was sent to the back of the grid to start the race, landing Sarrazin in third position. It was a much more difficult day for Mike Conway who began in the 14th position on the grid after a disappointing qualifying session.

In the beginning of the race Stéphane controlled his position well and kept just behind Di Grassi and Bird. The team did a great job swapping the cars mid-race at lap 21 and Stéphane was able to hold his position until lap 23 when he overtook Bird who had a braking issue in turn five.

“I won’t fall behind.” Sarrazin promised in the pit before the race and he kept that promise finishing the race in second place. Conway also had success as he was able to gain a few positions ending the race in the 10th position and scoring points for the Venturi Team.

“We are very happy” said Stéphane at the end of the race. “We have been so close to a win so many times since the beginning of the Formula-E series. Today is a great relief, and a great joy – everything really came together for us today. My cars were fast, efficient, reliable and our team did great in the pit. It really feels amazing to finally be on the podium. We are all really happy – and yesterday was Gildo’s birthday and he has done so much for this team and has been so patient, so it’s a great feeling to have been able to show him that today”.

The timing couldn’t have been better for the Monaco-based Venturi Formula-E Team to have both drivers score points for the first time in season 2. Team owner, Gildo Pastor, was in attendance with his family and extended Venturi after celebrating his birthday saturday, and enjoying this victory today.

“I am so happy” explained Gildo Pastor “The Venturi team has done a great job today. We have always known that we have a great engine and a great powertrain, but also that we have a team that is continuing to grow and learn in this specific motorsports environment. Today everyone was focused and efficient.

We achieved our first podium, and have both drivers earning points – that’s great. We still have a lot to learn, and a long way to come but it’s really wonderful to see that we are competitive and that our hard work has paid off. This is the second time in a row that Venturi Automobiles, as a manufacturer, is on the podium after Dragon’s victory in Mexico. Congratulations.”
