Nissan Leaf ATEV insieme a Plug In Adventures va ‘fuori dalla griglia’ in un’auto elettrica con una pionieristica partecipazione nel Mongol Rally da 10mila miglia

Londra, Gran Bretagna. 26 April, 2017. Il rivenditore di veicoli elettrici Plug In Adventures ha creato una Nissan LEAF appositamente modificata che sarà la prima auto elettrica ad entrare nel Rally Mongol *, percorrendo 10mila miglia / 16mila km dal Regno Unito fino alla Mongolia nell’estate del 2017.

Sulla base della Leaf ATEV (veicolo elettrico tutto terreno), il veicolo è basato su una normale Nissan Leaf Acenta da 30kWh, che offre un’autonomia massima di 250 miglia con una sola carica **. Le modifiche chiave sono state apportate per equipaggiare meglio la vettura una volta raggiunta le parti più remote del viaggio.

La Leaf ATEV è dotata di ruote Speedline SL2 Marmora e pneumatici stretti Maxsport RB3 per una migliore prestazione su strade aperte. Le piastre saldate alla parte inferiore delle guide, le linee di frenata intrecciate, i flaps e una protezione in alluminio da 6mm in altezza aumentano la protezione dal terreno accidentato.

Una cremagliera modificata per il tetto prevede l’immagazzinaggio esterno ed è dotata di una barra luminosa Lazer TripleR 16 LED per produrre 16.400 lumen di illuminazione supplementare a bassa tensione avanzata durante le parti più remote del viaggio.

Poiché il rally mongolo non è una gara temporizzata, i veicoli dei partecipanti offrono idealmente comfort a lunga distanza. Le modifiche interne alla Leaf ATEV sono state focalizzate sul ridurre il peso e fornire più spazio di carico. L’area del conducente e del passeggero anteriore non è stata modificata a parte l’aggiunta dei tappetini in gomma. La fila posteriore dei sedili e le cinture di sicurezza posteriori sono state completamente rimosse, contribuendo ad una perdita di peso di 32 kg. Anche un estintore ed il Medi Kit sono stati integrati nello spazio di carico.

Le modifiche apportate alla Leaf ATEV sono state effettuate da RML Group, una delle principali società di ingegneria automobilistica ad alte prestazioni con sede nel Regno Unito.

Chris Ramsey, fondatore di Plug In Adventures, ha dichiarato:

“Il rally mongolo è il nostro percorso elettrico più impegnativo fino ad oggi, ma è quello che stiamo progettando per un certo numero di anni. Non solo ci affronteremo con un numero decadente di EV plug-in, dove andiamo più a est, ma anche il terreno diventa più difficile da navigare.

“Utilizzare una Nissan Leaf per questo è stata una decisione ovvia però. Conosco bene la vettura, è sempre stata affidabile ed è affidabile anche per me e ha la più grande rete di opzioni di ricarica rapide in Europa. Poichè accetterà anche una connessione da 240v anche nelle aree remote quando le mie opzioni di fast-battery saranno sparite, posso ancora caricare la batteria e continuare a muovermi. Questo viaggio riguarda l’esperienza di viaggio però, non raggiungendo la destinazione in modo veloce. Non vedo l’ora di uscire sulla strada e di introdurre più persone ai vantaggi dei veicoli elettrici, in qualunque paese sia! “

Chris prevede di fermarsi regolarmente lungo la strada per promuovere i vantaggi di avere un veicolo elettrico ai residenti dei paesi che attraverserà. Utilizzerà inoltre la piattaforma What3Words (http://what3words.com/) per registrare le posizioni di alcune delle reti di ricarica inesplorate in modo che i driver futuri di EV che attraversino la regione possano trarre vantaggio da posizioni accurate del punto di ricarica.

Gareth Dunsmore, Direttore dei veicoli elettrici, Nissan Europe, ha dichiarato:

“Dal momento che abbiamo lanciato la Leaf nel 2010, i nostri clienti hanno guidato collettivamente per oltre tre miliardi di chilometri, risparmiando più di 500 milioni di chilogrammi di emissioni di CO2 nel processo ***. L’iniziativa “Electrify the World” raccoglie storie da queste persone che vivono uno stile di vita elettrico.

“Alcuni proprietari di Nissan Leaf sono stati più loquaci o impegnati come Plug In Adventures per dimostrare che i veicoli elettrici possono fare molto di più che il viaggio quotidiano. Appelliamo questa sfida ambiziosa di guida e auguriamo loro un viaggio sicuro e piacevole “.

A proposito di Plug In Adventures

Plug In Adventures è stata fondata da Chris Ramsey nel 2011 e nasce da una passione combinata per le avventure ed i veicoli elettrici. Composto da un gruppo di appassionati di EV con sede in Scozia, il suo obiettivo è quello di impegnarsi con il pubblico in maniera unica e diversa, sostenendo tutte le cose relative agli EV.

Plug In Adventures non è estraneo a mettere le auto elettriche in imprese epiche. Nel settembre del 2015, hanno preso solo due giorni per completare il viaggio di 1.652 miglia da John O’Groats a Land’s End e di nuovo in una Nissan Leaf da 24kWh, utilizzando solo i punti di ricarica EV disponibili e gratuiti.

Nell’Aprile del 2016 hanno completato la North Coast 500 in una Leaf 30kWh. Il percorso impegnativo di circa 516 miglia intorno alle Highlands della Scozia si trova come “risposta scozzese alla Route 66”.

Il rally mongolo è il culmine di questa serie di avventure EV che Chris ha creato per se stesso come allenamento – tutto costruito in questo viaggio significativo e impegnativo.

Il rally mongolo

Il Mongol Rally è un percorso di 10.000 miglia di carità attraverso le montagne, il deserto e la steppa d’Europa e dell’Asia che si svolge ogni estate a partire dal 2004. L’evento è organizzato da The Adventurists (http://www.theadventurists.com) che corrono in un certo numero di eventi e che hanno raccolto 5 milioni di sterline da devolvere in carità ad oggi.

Ogni squadra del Rally Mongolese dovrebbe aumentare un minimo di 1000 sterline per la carità.

Le regole prevedono che i partecipanti devono guidare una piccola automobile da sotto1.0 litri in quanto renderà l’evento più sfida con una maggiore probabilità di rottura, il che significa che i conducenti possono interagire con i residenti lungo la strada.

L’azionamento non è supportato da alcun sostegno “su strada”. I partecipanti dovrebbero uscire dai guai da soli.

Per il 2017, gli avventurieri hanno sostenuto la decisione di Chris di entrare nel rally con la Leaf ATEV, in modo che possa diventare il primo veicolo elettrico a tentare il viaggio e evidenziare l’impegno dell’organizzazione verso la sostenibilità e l’ambiente.

Il rally mongolo 2017 inizierà Domenica 16 luglio.

Nissan LEAF ATEV – Plug In Adventures goes ‘off the grid’ in an electric car with pioneering 10,000 mile Mongol Rally entry Nissan

London, UK. April 26, 2017. Electric vehicle advocate Plug In Adventures has created a specially modified Nissan LEAF that will be the first all electric car to enter the Mongol Rally*, driving 10,000 miles / 16,000 km from the UK to Mongolia in summer 2017.

Dubbed the LEAF ATEV (All Terrain Electric Vehicle), the vehicle is based on a standard 30kWh Nissan LEAF Acenta, which offers a range of up to 155 miles / 250 km on a single charge**. Key modifications have been made to better equip the car once it reaches the more remote parts of the journey.

The LEAF ATEV has been fitted with Speedline SL2 Marmora wheels and Maxsport RB3 narrow tyres, for better performance on unsealed roads. Welded plates to the underside of the wishbones, braided brake lines, mudflaps and a 6mm aluminium sump guard add further protection from rough terrain.

A modified roof rack provides external storage and is fitted with a Lazer TripleR 16 LED light bar to produce 16,400 lumens of supplementary lowvoltage forward lighting during the remotest parts of the trip.

As the Mongol Rally isn’t a timed race, the entrants’ vehicles ideally provide long distance comfort. The interior modifications to the LEAF ATEV have been focused on reducing weight and providing more storage space. The driver and front passenger area is unmodified apart from the addition of rubber floor mats. The rear row of seats and rear seatbelts have been completely removed, contributing to a 32kg weight loss. A Fire Extinguisher and Medi Kit have also been integrated into the boot space.

The modifications to the LEAF ATEV were carried out by RML Group, a leading high performance automotive engineering company based in the UK.

Chris Ramsey, founder of Plug In Adventures , said:

“The Mongol Rally is our most challenging electric vehicle drive to date, but it’s one we’ve been planning for a number of years. Not only will we face a dwindling number of EV chargers the further east we go, the terrain also becomes more difficult to navigate.

“Using a Nissan LEAF for this was an obvious decision though. I’m very familiar with the car, it’s always been reliable and dependable for me, and it has the largest network of rapid charging options in Europe. As it will also accept a 240v Commando connection even in the remote areas when my fastcharge options are gone, I can still charge the battery and keep moving. This journey is about the travel experience though, not reaching the destination in a fast time. I can’t wait to get out on the road and introduce more people to the advantages of electric vehicles, whatever country they’re from!”

Chris plans to make regular stops along the way to promote the benefits of running an allelectric vehicle to residents of the countries he’s passing through. He’ll also be using the What3Words platform (http://what3words.com/) to log the locations of some of the uncharted charging network, so that future EV drivers traversing the region can benefit from accurate charging point locations.

About the Mongol Rally

The Mongol Rally is a 10,000 mile charity drive across the mountains, desert and steppe of Europe and Asia which takes place each summer and first started in 2004. The event is organised by The Adventurists  (http://www.theadventurists.com) which run a number of events that have raised £5million for charity to date. Each team in the Mongol Rally is expected to raise a minimum of £1000 for charity.

The rules state that participants must drive a small, sub1.0litre engine car as it will make the event more of a challenge with a greater chance of a breakdown meaning drivers can interact with locals along the way. The drive is unsupported with no ‘on the road backup.’ Participants are expected to get themselves out of trouble.

For 2017, The Adventurists have supported Chris’ decision to enter the rally with the LEAF ATEV, so that it can become the first electric vehicle to attempt the journey and highlight the organisation’s commitment to sustainability and the environment.

The 2017 Mongol Rally launches on Sunday 16 July.
