Il podio conquistato da Lucas di Grassi e una forte spinta rimonta di Daniel Abt fino al settimo posto: il team ABT Audi Sport Schaeffler ha gestito un buon inizio del motorsport per l’anno 2017. Con questo, il sudamericano e la squadra tedesca rimangono i più diretti avversari di Sébastien Buemi e Renault.

I numeri hanno tenuto Lucas di Grassi tra i possibili vincitori del terzo round della stagione di Formula E in Argentina.7 A mezzogiorno il brasiliano ha conquistato la prima pole position nella serie di corse di auto elettrica e poche ore più tardi, nella posizione di tre, ha festeggiato il suo 15esimo podio nelle complessive 24 gare, un risultato record. Il suo compagno di squadra Daniel Abt ha completato il successo della sola squadra tedesca in campo con un buon settimo posto.

Come al solito in Formula E, gli spettatori che costeggiano il circuito cittadino stradale da 2,480 chilometri e di fronte ai televisori di tutto il mondo hanno assistito a 37 giri ricchi di azione ed emozionanti con numerose manovre di sorpasso. Dopo che Lucas di Grassi ha vinto inizialmente lo scatto nella partenza è sceso al quinto posto nei seguenti giri. Con un pit stop dove come al solito il suo team si è comportato in modo perfetto e ritornato con lo spirito giusto per effettuare dei sorpassi che hanno permesso il sudamericano di combattere per raggiungere un posto sul podio.

“Questa è stata una gara molto buona, anche se, dopo la pole position, si è scoperto solo di essere al terzo posto”, ha detto Lucas di Grassi. “Dobbiamo riconoscere che stiamo ancora inseguendo le due squadre alimentati da Renault. Questo non significa che ci stiamo arrendendo, ma che stiamo andando a lavorare ancora di più per poter finalmente battere di nuovo i leader della classifica. Per oggi, siamo felici con i punti per il terzo posto e la pole position e andiamo a casa con orgoglio”.

Mentre di Grassi era scivolato nelle prove libere, costrinigendo i suoi meccanici a lavorare un turno in più in temperature esterne di oltre 30 gradi Celsius, Daniel Abt ha avuto la stessa disavventura in qualifica. Il tedesco, ha toccato il muro con la sua ABT Schaeffler FE02, il che significava dover accontentarsi del 16esimo posto sulla griglia di partenza. Nella gara Abt ha mantenuto il sangue freddo, è rimasto fuori da tutte le risse guadagnando nove posizioni ed ha segnato punti preziosi al settimo posto.

“Una gara folle carica di azione, molto divertimento e, alla fine, un buon settimo posto – che è una dolce ricompensa per tutto il duro lavoro svolto dai meccanici dopo l’incidente in qualifica,” ha detto Daniel Abt.

La sintesi dopo la rimonta del capo della squadra Hans-Jürgen Abt dopo la pausa invernale della Formula E di più di tre mesi è positivo:

“Congratulazioni a Lucas, Daniel e tutta la squadra su questa solida e forte prestazione del team. Dopo una pausa così lunga non è facile essere perfettamente in forma e lavorare con la massima concentrazione, ma ancora una volta siamo riusciti a farlo bene oggi. Tuttavia, ciò non significa che andremo a riposare su questo trofeo e sui punti che abbiamo segnato. La prima cosa che lunedì mattina abbiamo intenzione di fare è dare il massimo di nuovo al fine di combattere per la vittoria al prossimo evento della Formula E in Messico”.

Lucas di Grassi celebrates pole and podium in Formula E

The next podium position clinched by Lucas di Grassi and a strong comeback drive by Daniel Abt to seventh place: Team ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport managed a successful start to the 2017 motorsport year. With that, the South American and the German team remain the closest rivals of Sébastien Buemi and Renault.

Lucas di Grassi numbers among the winners of round three of the Formula E season held in Argentina. At noon the Brazilian clinched the first pole position in the electric racing series and a few hours later, in position three, celebrated his 15th podium finish, in total, in the 24th race – a record achievement. His teammate Daniel Abt completed the success of the only German outfit in the field with a strong seventh place.

As usual in Formula E, the spectators lining the 2,480-kilometre city street circuit and in front of television sets around the globe witnessed 37 action-packed and thrilling laps with numerous overtaking manoeuvres. After Lucas di Grassi had won the start he initially dropped to fifth place on the following laps. With a pit stop by his crew that was perfect as usual and a spirited overtaking manoeuvre the South American battled his way to the champagne party on the podium.

“This was a very good race even though, after pole position, it only turned out to be third place,” said Lucas di Grassi. “We have to acknowledge that we’re still chasing the two teams powered by Renault. That doesn’t mean we’re giving up, but that we’re going to work even harder on finally beating the leaders of the standings again. For today, we’re happy with the points for third place and pole position and are going home with pride.”

While di Grassi had slipped in free practice, which made his mechanics work an extra shift in outside temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius, Daniel Abt had the same misfortune in qualifying. The German, too, touched the wall in his ABT Schaeffler FE02, which meant having to settle for 16th on the grid. In the race Abt kept a cool head, stayed clear of all tussles and, making up nine positions, scored valuable points in seventh place.

“A crazy race loaded with action, lots of fun and, in the end, a good seventh place – that’s a sweet reward for all the hard work done by the mechanics after the accident in qualifying,” said Daniel Abt.

Team boss Hans-Jürgen Abt’s summary after Formula E’s comeback following a more than three-month winter break is positive:

“Congratulations to Lucas, Daniel and the whole team on this solid, strong team performance. After such a long break it’s not easy to be perfectly fit and to work with maximum concentration again – we managed to do that well today. However, that doesn’t mean we’re going to rest on this trophy and the points we scored. First thing Monday morning, we’re going to start giving our all again in order to battle for victory at the next Formula E event in Mexico.”
