Parigi, Francia. 23 Aprile 2016. Il settimo round del campionato 2015/16 di Formula E si è svolto oggi intorno alle splendide vie del centro di Parigi, con la gara nella capitale francese che segna l’inizio della stagione europea delle gare fino alla fine della stagione. Il Team NEXTEV TCR di Formula E ha avuto una mattinata positiva, con un ritmo pratica incoraggiante, seguito dal suo miglior risultato in qualifica combinata della stagione. In gara, Oliver Turvey è finito 13esimo, mentre Nelson Piquet Jr. è stato costretto al ritiro dopo una sofferenza di un problema tecnico.

Oliver ha avuto una sessione di qualifica di successo, segnano il settimo tempo complessivo ed allineandosi in quarta fila della griglia. Nella gara di 45 giri, Oliver è stato inizialmente in grado di guadagnare una posizione, salendo al 6°, poi ha trascorso diversi giri a difendersi dall’attacco di Sebastien Buemi, che alla fine lo ha superato al nono giro. Nel corso dei sei giri ha perso posizioni contro Robin Frijns e Antonio Felix da Costa, ed era al nono posto quando è rientrato ai box. Dopo la sosta obbligatoria, che ha fatto al 24esimo giro, è rientrato in 12esima posizione, poi ha perso una posizione al giro 39 ed ha tagliato il traguardo in 13esima posizione.

In qualifica, Nelson ha segnato il nono tempo, vale a dire la squadra si aveva assicurato la sua posizione migliore qualifica della stagione, con entrambi i piloti nella top ten. Al primo giro è stato relegato al decimo posto, restando in quella posizione fino al giro 15. Ha poi sperimentato una perdita di potenza dal 15esimo giro, perdendo posizioni, ed è stato costretto ad una sosta anticipata al 17esimo giro per cambiare auto.

Ha iniziato la sua seconda parte di gara, ma a causa di dover cambiare auto prima del previsto, non aveva energia sufficiente per durare fino alla fine della gara, e così è stato costretto al ritiro al giro 41.

La prossima gara si svolgerà a Berlino il Sabato 21 maggio.

Oliver Turvey (auto # 88):

“Ho avuto una buona sessione di qualifica ed è stata una sorpresa essere davanti a Buemi! Ho avuto un grande inizio che si riflette nella quinta posizione prima della prima curva. Nei primi giri ero forte, ma poi è diventato evidente che le altre vetture intorno a me avevano un ritmo migliore, così i ragazzi davanti hanno iniziato a sorpassarmi, e ho dovuto iniziare a difendermi dalle auto alle spalle. Ci sono state delle belle battaglie in pista . Purtroppo abbiamo avuto un brutto pit-stop e così ho perso qualche posizione e poi durante la seconda parte di gara ho spinto a fondo per mantenere la posizione acquisita. Tuttavia siamo in grado di prendere gli aspetti positivi di una forte qualificazione via con noi, e guardare avanti alla prossima gara.”

Nelson Piquet Jr. (automobile # 1):

“L’atmosfera e la folla di oggi a Parigi era incredibile e sono molto felice di correre qui. Non ci sono dubbi, avrei potuto facilmente andare dritto nella top tre. Questo credo sia il migliore evento globale. Amo la pista, è subito è diventata una delle mie preferite per guidare, insieme a Mosca e Monaco. Purtroppo non abbiamo il passo per poter lottare in testa. Vorrei inviare un enorme “congratulazioni” a tutti i soggetti coinvolti nell’organizzazione di questo evento”.

Martin Leach, Presidente NEXTEV:

“Abbiamo raggiunto la nostra strategia in qualifica di portare entrambe le vetture nella top ten, che era una buona preparazione per la gara. E’ il nostro miglior risultato in qualifica finora nella stagione. Purtroppo abbiamo avuto un problema tecnico con Nelson. L’auto ha fatto una lenta pitstop con Oliver, il che significava nel complesso una gara deludente, ma torneremo a combattere la prossima volta. “

Paris, France. 23^rd April 2016. The seventh round of the 2015/16 FIA Formula E Championship took place today around the stunning city centre streets of Paris, with the race in the French capital marking the start of the European run of races through to the end of the season. The NEXTEV TCR Formula E Team had a positive morning, with an encouraging practice pace, followed by its best combined qualifying result of the season. In the race, Oliver Turvey finished 13th while Nelson Piquet Jr was forced to retire after a suffering a technical issue.

Oliver had a successful qualifying session, setting the seventh fastest time overall to line up on the fourth row of the grid. In the 45-lap race, Oliver was initially able to gain a position, moving up to 6th, then spent several laps fending off an advancing Sebastien Buemi, who eventually passed him on lap nine. Over the following six laps he lost position to Robin Frijns and Antonio Felix da Costa, and was in ninth place when he pitted. After the mandatory stop, which he took on lap 24, he emerged in 12th position, then lost a position on lap 39. He crossed the finish line in 13th position.

In qualifying, Nelson set the ninth fastest time, meaning the team secured its best qualifying position of the season, with both drivers in the top ten. On lap one he was relegated to tenth place and maintained position until lap 15. He then experienced a loss of power from lap 15, losing positions, and was forced into an early pitstop on lap 17 to change cars. He began his second stint, but due to having to change cars earlier than planned, he did not have enough energy to last until the end of the race, and so was forced to retire on lap

The next race will take place in Berlin on Saturday 21 May.

Oliver Turvey (Car #88):

“I had a good qualifying session and it was a surprise to be ahead of Buemi! I had a great start and moved up to P5 on the first corner. The opening laps were strong, but then it became apparent that the other cars around me had a better pace, so the guys in front started to pull away, and I had to start to defend from the cars behind and had some good battles on track.  Unfortunately we had a poor pit stop so lost a few places and then during the second stint I pushed hard to maintain position. However we can take the positives of a strong qualifying away with us, and look ahead to the next race.”

Nelson Piquet Jr (Car #1):

“The atmosphere and crowd today in Paris was amazing and I am very happy to be racing here. No doubt about it it’s easily gone straight into the top three, if not the best overall event. I loved the track, it’s immediately become one of my favourites to drive, along with Moscow and Monaco. Unfortunately we don’t have the pace to be fighting at the front, but I say a huge congratulations to everyone involved in putting this event together.”

“We achieved our strategy in qualifying to get both cars into the top ten, which was good preparation for the race, and our strongest qualifying result of the season so far. Sadly we had a technical issue with Nelson’s car and a slow pitstop with Oliver, which meant overall a disappointing race, but we will come back fighting next time.”
