Tokyo, Giappone. 7 Febbraio 2017. Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd., e Honda Motor Co., Ltd., hanno annunciato la firma di un protocollo d’intesa (“MoU”) il 3 Febbraio scorso, con l’obiettivo di creare una società in joint venture per lo sviluppo, la produzione e la vendita di motori per veicoli elettrici.

Le due aziende ora condurranno discussioni formali per quanto riguarda la costituzione della nuova società.

Hitachi Automotive Systems ha iniziato per prima la vendita di motori per i veicoli elettrici nel 1999, ha perfezionato le sue capacità tecnologiche e di prodotto per lo sviluppo ad alto rendimento, di motori di veicoli elettrici leggeri e compatti.

La società ha fornito un elevato volume di questi motori ai costruttori di veicoli in Giappone e in tutto il mondo, e si è guadagnata elogi in tutto il settore per le prestazioni di questi prodotti e la sua tecnologia di produzione.

Dal 1999, quando la Honda ha lanciato la sua prima auto ibrida Insight, l’azienda si è concentrata sull’espansione della sua gamma di veicoli elettrici in quanto continua a migliorare le sue capacità tecnologiche e produttive rispetto ai motori che costituiscono il componente principale dei veicoli elettrici.

Andando avanti, con le misure di conservazione ambientale e le normative sempre più severe su scala globale, il mercato dei veicoli elettrici è destinato a continuare a crescere.

Sulla base di questa direzione, le due aziende hanno firmato il protocollo d’intesa con l’obiettivo di utilizzare la collaborazione tra un produttore ed il fornitore del veicolo per generare le sinergie tecnologiche e le economie di scala che rafforzeranno il loro vantaggio costruendo il fondamento di un business competitivo per i motori al centro di un sistema di veicolo elettrico.

Le operazioni controllate della nuova joint venture con sede in Giappone sono previste per gli Stati Uniti e la Repubblica Popolare Cinese, ognuna con funzioni di produzione e di vendita. Insieme all’istituzione di queste operazioni, la nuova società espanderà l’offerta mondiale di motori per la creazione di una risposta forte alla domanda da Honda e da altre case automobilistiche.

Parallelamente agli sforzi della nuova società, Hitachi Automotive Systems continuerà a promuovere le proprie attività di business, mantenendo i rapporti commerciali che ha con le case automobilistiche che ricevono la loro fornitura di motori da parte della società. Inoltre, Honda continuerà a concentrarsi sulla promozione globale dei veicoli elettrici utilizzando i motori della nuova società così come i motori attualmente si produce in Giappone.

New Joint Venture between Honda and Hitachi

Hitachi Automotive Systems and Honda Sign MoU Aiming to Establish Joint Venture Company for Electric Vehicle Motors

Tokyo, Japan. February 7, 2017. Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd., and Honda Motor Co., Ltd., today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) on Feb. 3, aiming to establish a joint venture company for the development, manufacture and sales of motors for electric vehicles.The two companies now will conduct formal discussions regarding the establishment of the new company.

Since Hitachi Automotive Systems first started selling motors for electric vehicles in 1999, it has been refining its technological and product capabilities to develop high-output, lightweight and compact electric vehicle motors. The company has delivered a high volume of these motors to vehicle manufacturers in Japan and throughout the world, and has earned high praise throughout the industry for the performance of these products and its production technology.

Since 1999, when Honda launched its first hybrid car, Insight, the company has focused on expanding its electric vehicle line-up as it continues to enhance its technological and production capabilities with respect to the motors that form the core component of electric vehicles.

Going forward, with environmental conservation measures and regulations increasing on a global scale, the market for electric vehicles is expected to continue to grow. Based on this direction, the two companies signed the MoU with the aim of using the collaboration between a vehicle manufacturer and supplier to generate technological synergy and economies of scale that will strengthen their competitive advantage and business foundation for the motors at the core of an electric vehicle system.

Subsidiary operations of the new Japan-based joint venture are planned for the United States and People’s Republic of China, each with manufacturing and sales functions. Together with the establishment of these operations, the new company will expand the global supply of motors by creating a robust response to demand from Honda and other vehicle manufacturers.

In parallel to the efforts of the new company, Hitachi Automotive Systems will continue to promote its business operations by maintaining the business relationships it has with vehicle manufacturers that receive their supply of motors from the company. Moreover, Honda will continue to focus on the global promotion of electric vehicles by using motors from the new company as well as the motors it currently manufactures itself in Japan.
