Beh, oltre ad essere un pezzo obbligatorio dei dispositivi di sicurezza, i caschi sono equivalenti al carattere del pilota, una dichiarazione personale.
Il loro modo di esprimersi o di mostrare qualsiasi superstizione, ed i piloti di Formula E non fanno l’eccezione.

“I miei primi caschi sono stati progettati dal mio vicino di casa e amico d’infanzia Ranvir Ranjit ma nel 2007, quando mi sono iscritto al programma Red Bull, i ragazzi di Wunschel lo riprogettarono per adattarsi ai logo Red Bull.
I miei caschi sono stati dipinti da Jason Fowler per molti anni e ha fatto un buon lavoro di sottile trasformazione del mio progetto Red Bull ad uno non Red Bull quando ho lasciato il programma nel 2009!
“Ho sempre avuto l’arancio, bianco e verde della bandiera indiana sul mio casco, inizialmente sui lati e dopo il 2007 sul top e questo è stato molto importante per me.
“Ho scambiato i colori intorno ai lati del casco nel corso degli anni per dimostrare la fedeltà a certe squadre ed agli sponsor, ma il progetto è rimasto lo stesso. Ho usato blu e giallo inizialmente per sostenere i miei sponsor più importanti JK Pneumatici e Red Bull, poi scambiati al verde e giallo quando sono entrato nel Team Lotus in F1 e anche nel Murphy Prototypes a Le Mans. Per la Formula E, ho solo scambiato per un design di colore rosso e bianco che sono i colori della squadra Mahindra Racing”.

Well, apart from being a mandatory piece of safety equipment, helmets are the driver’s equivalent of a personal statement. Their way of expressing themselves or playing out any superstitions, and Formula E drivers are no exception. We caught up with Mahindra Racing’s Karun Chandhok to find out the thinking behind his…
“My early helmets were designed by my neighbour and childhood friend Ranvir Ranjit but in 2007 when I joined the Red Bull programme, the guys at Wunschel re-designed it to fit in the Red Bull logos. My helmets have been painted by Jason Fowler for many years now and he did a good job of subtly converting my Red Bull design to a non-Red Bull one when I left the programme in 2009!
“I’ve always had the orange, white and green of the Indian flag on my helmet, initially on the sides and post 2007 on the top and this has been very important to me.
“I swapped colours around the sides of the helmet over the years to show loyalty to certain teams and sponsors but the design has stayed the same. I used blue and yellow initially to support my longest sponsors JK Tyres and Red Bull, then swapped to green and yellow when I joined Team Lotus in F1 and also Murphy Prototypes at Le Mans. For Formula E, I swapped to a red and white design which are the Mahindra Racing team colours.”
