Herzogenaurach, Germania. 5 settembre 2016. Con il test a Donington di questa settimana iniziano gli ultimi preparativi per la nuova stagione di Formula E, che lancia la sua prima corsa a Hong Kong il 9 ottobre.

Con lo sfidante Lucas di Grassi e il giovane Daniel Abt nel cockpit, un propulsore migliorato in molti aspetti e con Audi come nuovo partner, ABT Audi Sport Schaeffler inizia il tour mondiale con grande attesa e grandi aspettative.

La ABT Schaeffler MGU01 + – anche il nome mette in chiaro – si basa sulla combinazione del motore elettrico e la trasmissione dei due modelli delle passate stagioni di successo: in dieci gare entrambi i piloti hanno ottenuti dieci podi, di cui tre sono stati vittorie. Gli ingegneri del partner tecnologico esclusivo, Schaeffler, si sono concentrati sul migliorare ulteriormente la forza e l’efficienza delle unità di coppia. Oltre a ciò, il peso è stato ulteriormente ridotto. La trasmissione presenta tre marce, ed è stata ulteriormente ottimizzata nei suoi tempi di efficienza della cambiata.

“Ci sentiamo ben attrezzati per le sfide della terza stagione,” dice il Prof. Peter Gutzmer, Chief Technical Officer, che è responsabile per la Formula E a Schaeffler, e ha spinto in avanti fin dal primo minuto. “Il nostro powertrain, nella sua prima stagione, ha giocato un ruolo importante nei nostri molti successi. Pertanto è diventato subito chiaro per noi continuare a concentrarci sul nostro concetto già provato, ma allo stesso tempo di sviluppare ulteriormente tutti gli aspetti dei nostri componenti. I miei ringraziamenti vanno a tutti gli ingegneri che, con pieno impegno, hanno lavorato su questo in parallelo alla nostra lotta per il titolo, in modo di essere anche in grado di vincere nelle competizioni future”.

L’inizio della nuova stagione coincide con Audi che diventa un altro partner del team. Il marchio sta intensificando la sua partnership esistente attraverso il sostegno finanziario e tecnico. Per la stagione 2017/2018, sulla strada verso un impegno a pieno titolo della fabbrica, Audi Sport si unirà passo dopo passo allo sviluppo, in stretta collaborazione con il partner tecnologico Schaeffler.

“Il coinvolgimento di Audi è una buona notizia per la squadra e sottolinea il significato della Formula E nel mondo del motorsport, in particolare come una tappa ed i test di laboratorio mondiale per la mobilità elettrica. La collaborazione con il team ABT, nonché con i due piloti, Lucas e Daniel, era ed è eccellente in tutte le aree”, afferma il Prof. Peter Gutzmer. “Sono molto contento che ora possiamo continuare lo sviluppo del powertrain insieme con Audi Sport, che assumerà il processo di sviluppo complessivo.”

Con l’apertura della stagione a Hong Kong nel mese di ottobre, Formula E inizia il suo tour che dovrebbe includere dodici gare in dieci location. Nuove nel calendario, tra le altre, ci sono i circuiti a Marrakech, Bruxelles, Montreal e nel cuore di New York, dove alla fine di luglio 2017 si svolgeranno entrambe le gare finali. La gara di casa tedesca per le strade di Berlino si svolgerà il 10 luglio 2017.

“L’insieme della mobilità elettrica, comprese le soluzioni ibride e di guida elettrica pulita, avrà un impatto significativo futuro – soprattutto nelle grandi metropoli del mondo,” dice il Prof. Peter Gutzmer. “Per anni Schaeffler ha offerto soluzioni innovative e concetti per la mobilità di domani. ABT Schaeffler FE02 ready for a new season in Formula E

Herzogenaurach, Germany. September 5, 2016. With testing in Donington today begin the final preparations for the new season of Formula E, which launches with its first race in Hong Kong on October 9. With runner-up Lucas di Grassi and youngster Daniel Abt in the cockpits, a powertrain improved in many aspects and with Audi as a new partner, ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport starts the global tour with great anticipation and high expectations.

The ABT Schaeffler MGU01+ – even the name makes it clear – is based on the combination of electric motor and transmission from the successful season two model: in ten races both drivers picked up ten podium positions, of which three were victories. The engineers from the exclusive technology partner, Schaeffler, have concentrated on further improving the torque strength and efficiency of drive. On top of this, the weight has been further reduced. The transmission features three gears, and it has been further optimized in its efficiency and shift times.

“We feel well equipped for the challenges of the third season,” says Prof. Peter Gutzmer, the Chief Technical Officer who is responsible for Formula E at Schaeffler, and has driven it forward since the first minute. “Our powertrain, in its first season, played an important part in our many successes. Therefore it quickly became clear to us continue to focus on our proven concept, but at the same time to further develop all aspects of our components. My thanks go to all of the engineers who, with full commitment, worked on this in parallel with our fight for the title, so that we are capable of winning in future competitions as well.”

The beginning of the new season coincides with Audi becoming another partner of the team. The brand is intensifying its existing partnership through financial and technical support. For the 2017/2018 season, on the road toward a fully-fledged factory commitment, Audi Sport will be joining the development step by step in close cooperation with technology partner Schaeffler.

“Audi’s involvement is good news for the team and underlines Formula E’s significance in the world of motorsport, especially as a global stage and test laboratory for electric mobility. The cooperation with the team at ABT as well as with the two drivers, Lucas and Daniel, was and is excellent in all areas,” says Prof. Peter Gutzmer. “I am very pleased that we can now continue the powertrain development together with Audi Sport, who will take over the overall development process.”

With the season opener in Hong Kong in October, Formula E starts its tour that should include twelve races in ten locations. New to the calendar, among others, are circuits in Marrakesh, Brussels, Montreal as well as in the heart of New York, where at the end of July 2017 both final races will be held. The German home race on the streets of Berlin will take place on the 10 July, 2017.
