Punta del Este, Uruguay.14 dicembre 2014. Il pilota Venturi Stephane Sarrazin ha registrato il miglior tempo dei test di metà stagione a Punta del Este, di poco più veloce rispetto il vincitore della gara di ieri Sebastien Buemi.
Il francese trova il suo miglior giro della giornata nei minuti finali registrando 1m 14s 649s, più di un decimo più veloce di Buemi.
Sarrazin ha detto:
“E ‘stata una buona giornata, dopo la gara deludente di ieri. Abbiamo avuto la velocità, ma ho fatto un errore altrimenti avrei potuto raccogliere alcuni buoni punti. Oggi abbiamo lavorato su alcuni grandi cambiamenti di set-up perchè normalmente non c’è tempo e non abbiamo voluto rischiare prima di una gara. Con la pista gommata, tutto è venuto insieme. E ‘stata una giornata molto positiva”.
Nelson Piquet Jr. ha continuato la sua forma impressionante con il Cina Racing terminando la giornata al terzo posto davanti a Nick Heidfeld ed Jean-Eric Vergne del team Andretti Autosport.
Vergne, che ha provato solo nella sessione del mattino, non ha aspettato per iniziare a fare tempi veloci e subito nei 30 minuti di apertura ha battuto il tempo della pole di qualifiche di ieri di mezzo secondo.
Il leader del campionato e il driver Audi Sport ABT Lucas di Grassi ha chiuso sesto con il pilota dell’e.dams-Renault Nicolas Prost un posto indietro.
La maggior parte dei piloti si è concentrata sulle simulazioni di gara e della gestione della batteria per tutto il giorno, ma dopo una frenetica attività negli ultimi minuti i tempi sul giro si sono ridotti significativamente.
Dopo che entrambi hanno sofferto dei ritiri nella gara di ieri, i piloti della Virgin Racing Sam Bird e dell’Amlin Aguri Antonio Felix da Costa hanno terminato la sessione in ottava e nona posizione, rispettivamente.
L’argentino Esteban Guerrieri ha fatto una breve apparizione nel tardo pomeriggio per completare cinque giri nel team China Racing.
Le squadre hanno utilizzato il tempo limitato a disposizione nei test per registrare un totale di 1.086 giri, coprendo una distanza di 3.040 km.
Riassumendo l’evento a Punta del Este, il CEO della Formula E Alejandro Agag ha detto:
“Abbiamo avuto un’altra gara fantastica qui a Punta del Este. Un evento fantastico. Abbiamo visto azione durante tutto il tempo. Sono stato davvero contento di come il FanBoost ha funzionato – è davvero servito in gara. Penso che dimostra che i tifosi hanno una reale influenza nella gara. Ora non vedo l’ora di quello successivo”.

Sarrazin quickest in Punta del Este testing
Venturi driver fastest at in-season test
Punta del Este, Uruguay. December 14 2014. Venturi driver Stephane Sarrazin posted the quickest time of in-season testing at Punta del Este, narrowly edging out yesterday’s race winner Sebastien Buemi.
The Frenchman set his best lap of the day in the final minutes clocking a 1:14.649s, over a tenth clear of Buemi.
Sarrazin said: “It’s been a good day after a disappointing race yesterday. We had the speed but I made a mistake and could have picked up some good points. Today we worked on some big set-up changes as there’s normally no time and we’ve not wanted to risk it before a race. With the track rubbering in, everything came together. It’s been a very positive day.”
Nelson Piquet Jr. continued his impressive form for China Racing ending the day in third place ahead of Nick Heidfeld and Andretti’s Jean-Eric Vergne.
Vergne, who only ran in the morning session, didn’t wait to get started setting blistering pace in the opening 30 minutes beating his pole position time from yesterday’s qualifying session by half a second.
Championship leader and Audi Sport ABT driver Lucas di Grassi finished sixth with e.dams-Renault’s Nicolas Prost a further place back.
The majority of the field focussed on race simulations and battery management throughout the day but after a late flurry of activity in the final minutes the lap times reduced significantly.
After both suffering early retirements in the race yesterday, Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird and Amlin Aguri’s Antonio Felix da Costa finished the session in eighth and ninth respectively.
Argentinean driver Esteban Guerrieri made a brief appearance late in the afternoon session to complete five laps for China Racing.
The teams used the limited testing time available to record a total of 1086 laps, covering a distance of 3040km.
Summing up the event in Punta del Este, Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag said: “We had another fantastic race here in Punta del Este. A fantastic event. We saw action all the time. I was really happy about how the FanBoost worked – it really got into the race. I think it shows that the fans have a real influence in the race. Now I’m looking forward to the next one.”
