Marrakesh, Marocco. 12 Novembre 2016. La gara due del campionato 2016/17 FIA Formula E si è svolta oggi sulle strade della città di Marrakech. Il pilota del team NextEV di Formula E Oliver Turvey ha portato a casa dei punti finendo settimo, mentre Nelson Piquet Jr. purtroppo è finito fuori dalla zona punti a causa di un problema nel pit-stop obbligatorio.

Turvey si era qualificato nel gruppo due e ha registrato un giro veloce di 1:21,853, che, dopo che tutti si sono qualificati, gli ha assicurato un posto nella quarta fila sulla griglia di partenza per la gara da 33 giri, partendo dall’ottava posizione. Oliver ha avuto un buon inizio di gara, in quella che è stata la percorrenza di gara più lunga fatta fino ad oggi in Formula E, ed ha mantenuto l’ottava posizione fino al 15esimo giro, quando è stato superato da Lucas di Grassi, spingendolo in nona posizione. Ha fatto il suo pit-stop al 17esimo giro ed ha guadagnato una posizione, ritornando in pista nel ottavo posto. Ha avuto un altro buon secondo stint, mantenendo la posizione e poi sorpassando Jean Eric Vergne all’ultimo giro per finire nel settimo posto, raccogliendo sei punti.

Piquet Jr è finito quinto assoluto in qualifica, passando alla Super Pole, dove i primi cinque si giocano la pole in un secco giro finale. Ha finito quarto, ma una sanzione a Sebastien Buemi l’ha promosso a partire nel terzo posto in griglia. Ha fatto una solida prima parte di gara, arrivando al suo pit-stop obbligatorio al 16esimo giro in quinta posizione dopo aver perso posti nella lotta con Jean Eric Vergne e Buemi. Purtroppo ha subito un problema nel pit-stop, quando c’era un problema di riavvio della macchina, facendogli perdere 51 secondi e mettendolo nel 18esimo posto in classifica all’inizio del suo secondo stint. E’ stato in grado di recuperare due posizioni a causa dello stop di Loic Duval e quando Mitch Evans ha toccato il muro, ma, con un grande deficit di tempo per il resto della gara, non era in grado di progredire ulteriormente, tagliando il traguardo in 16esima posizone e, purtroppo, fuori dai punti.

Oliver Turvey (vettura # 88) – 7° posto

“Ho fatto una buona partenza e qualifica. Dopo che ero in grado di creare uno spazio dai ragazzi che c’erano dietro, ho mantenuto i nostri obiettivi energetici ed ho mantenuto un ritmo costante. Il pitstop è andato bene e la seconda parte di gara è stata abbastanza costante. Sono stato da solo durante la maggior parte della gara, ma è un’altra gara nella quale abbiamo imparato molto e abbiamo migliorato rispetto all’ultima. Vogliamo essere più in alto, ma segnare altri sei punti è buono.”

Nelson Piquet Jr. (vettura # 3) – 16° posto

“E’ stata una giornata difficile. Stavo facendo una buona gara, ma sapevo che non potevo combattere troppo contro Sebastian (Buemi) e Jean Eric (Vergne), così ho mantenuto la mia strategia. Quando sono entrato per il cambiamento auto abbiamo avuto un problema elettrico che ci ha fatto perdere molto tempo e, a quel punto ero game over. E’ molto frustrante e così ora dobbiamo indagare su ciò che è accaduto in modo da non ripeterlo. C’è una grande pausa adesso fino alla gara di Buenos Aires nel mese di febbraio in modo di cercare di tornare forti”.

“Una giornata difficile per il NextEV formula E Team. In qualifica, mentre chiaramente non è stato il pezzo forte che abbiamo assistito a Hong Kong, è stata buona per Nelson ed è stato un peccato che Oliver non abbia potuto entrare in Super Pole. Partire da P3 e P8 sulla griglia, rispettivamente, significava che eravamo ben posizionati per una buona prestazione in gara, anche se Nelson ha subito un problema elettrico durante il cambio vettura che lo lasciò in P18 dopo il pit stop ed efficacemente ha concluso la sua gara. Oliver ha avuto una gara più semplice nella P7 ma ha lottato con alcuni problemi di freno nella seconda parte di gara, che hanno ostacolato il suo progresso. Passando Vergne all’ultimo giro ha garantito punti di maggior valore per la squadra, ma abbiamo ancora del lavoro da fare per migliorare il nostro passo di gara rispetto alle nostre prestazioni sul giro singolo.”

Marrakesh, Morocco. 12 Novembre 2016. Race two of the 2016/17 FIA Formula E Championship took place today on the city streets of Marrakesh. NextEV Formula E Team’s Oliver Turvey took home points for finishing seventh, while Nelson Piquet Jr unfortunately finished out of the points due to an issue in the mandatory pitstop.

Turvey qualified in group two and recorded a fastest lap of 1:21.853 which, after everyone had qualified, secured him a fourth row starting spot on the grid for the 33-lap race, beginning from eighth. Oliver had a strong start to the race, which was the longest race distance run to date in Formula E, and maintained eighth position through to lap 15, when he was passed by Lucas di Grassi, putting him into ninth. He made his pitstop on lap 17 and gained a position, emerging in eighth. He had another strong second stint, maintaining position and then passing Jean Eric Vergne on the last lap to finish in seventh, collecting six points for finishing seventh.

Piquet Jr finished fifth overall in qualifying, which put him through to Super Pole, where the top five dual it out in a final pole shoot-out. He finished fourth, but a penalty for Sebastien Buemi promoted him to start third in the race. He ran a solid first stint, coming in for his mandatory pitstop on lap 16 in fifth position after losing places to Jean Eric Vergne and Buemi. Unfortunately he suffered an issue in the pitstop when there was an issue initialising the car, causing him to lose 51 seconds and putting him 18th in the standings at the start of his second stint. He was able to make up two places due to Loic Duval stopping on track and Mitch Evans touching the wall but, with a large time deficit to the remainder of the grid, he was unable to progress any further, crossing the line in 16th and unfortunately out of the points.

Oliver Turvey (Car #88) – finished 7th

“I got a good start and held position. After that I was able to create a gap to the guys behind, maintained our energy targets and kept a consistent pace. The pitstop went well and the second stint was pretty consistent. I was on my own most of the race, but it’s another race that we learnt a lot and we improved from the last race. We want to be higher up but to score another six points is good.”

Nelson Piquet Jr (Car #3) – finished 16th

“It’s been a difficult day. We were having an okay race but I knew I couldn’t fight too much against Sebastian [Buemi] and Jean Eric (Vergne), so I kept to my strategy. When I came in for the car change we had an electrical issue which lost us a lot of time and at that point it was game over. It’s very frustrating so now we have to investigate what happened so it doesn’t repeat. There’s a big break now until the Buenos Aires race in February so we will look to come back strong.”

“A difficult day for the NextEV Formula E Team. Qualifying, whilst clearly not the highlight that we witnessed in Hong Kong, was strong for Nelson and it was a shame that Oliver did not make in to Super Pole. Starting from P3 and P8 on the grid respectively meant that we were well positioned for a strong performance in the race, although Nelson suffered an electrical issue during the car change which dropped him to P18 after the pit stop and effectively ended his race. Oliver had a more straightforward race to P7 but struggled with some brake issues in the second stint, which hampered his progress. Passing Vergne on the last lap secured more valuable points for the team but we have more work to do to improve our race pace compared to our performances over a single lap.”
