– Stephane Sarrazin incontra problemi nella sessione di qualifica

– Tom Dillmann si presenta in grande stile nel suo debutto in Formula E

Parigi, Francia. 20 Maggio 2017. La sesta corsa della stagione si è tenuta nel cuore di Parigi, intorno al “Dôme des Invalides”, situato nel 7° arrondissement, non lontano dalla Torre Eiffel che è il punto di riferimento del circuito di 1,92 chilometri che è il secondo più breve del calendario della stagione 2016/2017.

Stephane Sarrazin, alla sua seconda gara a Parigi, ha incontrato problemi tecnici nella sessione di qualifica. Come conseguenza di un cambio del motore dopo un’arresto nel suo giro di qualifica, ha ricevuto una penalità – costringendolo a iniziare la gara dall’estremità finale della griglia – più una penalità di 10 secondi. Nessuna posizione iniziale promettente per il francese.

Tom Dillmann, il pilota di riserva della squadra ha sostituito il titolare in Formula E Maro Engel, che non poteva correre la gara a causa di conflitti di programmazione. Nella sua prima sessione di qualificazione di Formula E, Dillmann ha concluso in 15° posto, appena 0,4 secondi dietro il pilota Sebastien Buemi.

“Ho fatto un inizio troppo conservatore nel mio giro di qualifica che mi è costato tempo prezioso nel settore uno – ma penso che sono ben preparato per la gara”, ha detto Dillmann con fiducia dopo la sessione di qualifica.

La corsa è risultata ancora più turbolenta. Dillmann ha fatto un buon inizio ed ha superato di Grassi, attualmente al secondo posto nel campionato, per mantenere a sua volta la 12a posizione fino al primo di tre periodi di bandiera gialla. E Stephane Sarrazin aveva anche recuperato qualche terreno perduto fino a quel momento.

Dopo un ravvicinato incontro di Di Grassi e Felix da Costa, questi ultimi si sono schiantati contro il muro. Quindi, proprio come a Monaco, tutte le strategie di pit-stop programmate si sono rivelate obsolete, poiché quasi tutte le squadre hanno utilizzato questa bandiera gialla per chiamare i loro piloti per l’obbligo di scambio di auto.

Temporaneamente Dillmann e Sarrazin hanno tenuto le 10 e 12 posizioni, ma le cose dovevano risultare ancora meglio per i due piloti Venturi. Grazie a un secondo giallo completo, causato dall’incidente di Jean-Eric Vergne che era in seconda posizione in quel momento e la penalità inflitta a di Grassi, l’avventura di Venturi ha terminato rispettivamente nell’ottavo e decimo posto finale. Di conseguenza, è stata la seconda volta questa stagione che entrambi i piloti Venturi sono arrivati tra I primi 10.

Il team manager Delphine Biscaye è stata contenta dei successi della squadra:

“Non era facile. A causa del problema nell’auto di Stephane la squadra ha dovuto lavorare molto duramente per completare il cambio del motore in tempo per la gara. Ma Stephane ci ha premiato con la sua rimonta straordinaria di oggi e Tom ci ha dimostrato di aver fatto la decisione giusta quando lo abbiamo scelto come il nostro pilota di riserva”.

La prossima gara, a Berlino Tempelhof, si terrà il 10 e 11 giugno. Sarà il primo evento con due gare in un week end quest’anno.

A Berlino, la squadra monegasca di Formula E, come di consueto sarà rappresentata dai piloti Venturi Maro Engel e Stephane Sarrazin.

Paris, France. 20^th May 2017. The sixth race of the season was held in the heart of Paris, around the ‘Dôme des Invalides’ that is located in the 7^th arrondissement, not far from the Eiffel Tower and is the landmark of the 1.92-kilometre circuit that is the shortest on the calendar of the 2016 / 2017 season.

Stephane Sarrazin, with two race starts in Paris the team’s old hand, encountered technical problems in the qualifying session. For an engine change following a shut-down on his qualifying lap he received a grid penalty – forcing him to start into the race from the very end of the grid – plus a 10-second penalty. No promising initial position for the Frenchman.

Tom Dillmann, the team’s reserve driver who replaced its Formula E regular Maro Engel who couldn’t contest the race due to scheduling conflicts. In his first Formula E qualifying session Dillmann finished 15^th, just 0.4 seconds behind pole-sitter Sebastien Buemi.

“I made a too conservative start into my qualifying lap that cost me valuable time in sector one – but I think that I’m well prepared for the race,” Dillmann confidently said after the qualifying session.

The race should turn out to be even more turbulent. Dillmann made a good start and passed Du Grassi, currently second in the championship, in turn one to hold 12^th position up to the first of three yellow-flag periods. And Stephane Sarrazin also had made up for some of the lost ground, at this point in time.

Following a close encounter of Di Grassi and Felix da Costa the latter crashed into the walls. So, just like in Monaco, all the planned pit-stop strategies proved to be obsolete as nearly all the teams used this Full Course Yellow to call their drivers in for the obligatory car swap.

Temporarily Dillmann and Sarrazin held 10^th and 12^th positions but things should turn out even better for the two Venturi drivers. Thanks to a second Full Course Yellow, caused Jean-Eric Vergne who held second position at this point in time, and a penalty for di Grassi, the Venturi pairing finished eighth and tenth respectively, in the end. Consequently, it was the second time this season that both Venturi drivers made it to the top 10.

Team Manager Delphine Biscaye was happy with the squad’s achievements: “It wasn’t easy. Due to the failure on Stephane’s car the team had to work really hard to complete the engine change in time for the race. But Stephane rewarded us with his sensational comeback, today, and Tom demonstrated that we made the right decision when choosing him as our reserve driver.“

The next race meeting, in Berlin Tempelhof, will be held on 10^th and 11^th June. It will be the first event featuring heads-to-head races, this year.

In Berlin, the Monaco based Formula E team as usual will be represented the Venturi regulars  Maro Engel and Stephane Sarrazin.
