Il 4 marzo Hartmut Schick, responsabile di Daimler Buses, ha consegnato la chiave simbolica dei dodici Mercedes-Benz Citaro NGT (Natural Gas Technology) al Dr Walter Casazza, direttore del programma della municipalizzata AugsburgerStadtwerke, alla presenza del sindaco Dr. Kurt Gribl.
Alla cerimonia di consegna del veicolo nella piazza del Municipio di Augsburg, Hartmut Schick ha sottolineato l’importanza della nuova flotta alimentata a gas naturale, ecologica da Mercedes-Benz per Daimler Buses:
“Il fatto che AugsburgerStadtwerke abbia scelto Mercedes-Benz Citaro NGT per aggiornare la loro flotta convalida i nostri sforzi per continuare lo sviluppo di alternative al motore diesel classico e di offrire queste come ultima generazione. In pratica il motore a gas naturale in uso qui è attualmente il più compatto della sua categoria. Ma c’è di più, questi motori funzionano molto soft – qualcosa che è particolarmente vantaggioso all’interno della città . E sono completamente sostenibili per l’uso del gas naturale rinnovabile”.
Per più di un anno, la flotta di autobus di Augusta ha già utilizzato il gas naturale rinnovabile al 100 per cento ed è la prima grande città in Germania con un servizio regolare quasi neutrale di emission di CO2. Come più importante azienda di trasporto pubblico locale della regione, la AugsburgerStadtwerke attualmente gestisce una flotta di autobus di 89 veicoli, che sono tutti alimentati a gas naturale. I dodici nuovi Citaro NGT arrivano a seguito della consegna del primo Citaro NGT con la nuova tecnologia del motore che è stato consegnato nel dicembre 2015.

Stuttgart/Augsburg, 4 March 2016. On 4 March Hartmut Schick, Head of Daimler Buses, handed over the symbolic key for twelve Mercedes-Benz Citaro NGT buses (Natural Gas Technology) to Dr Walter Casazza, manager of the public utility AugsburgerStadtwerke, in the presence of the mayor Dr Kurt Gribl.
At the ceremonial vehicle delivery at the Augsburg town hall square Hartmut Schick emphasised the importance of the new, environmentally-friendly natural gas-powered fleet from Mercedes-Benz for Daimler Buses:
“The fact that AugsburgerStadtwerke have chosen the Mercedes-Benz Citaro NGT to update their fleet validates our efforts to continue developing alternatives to the classic diesel drive and to offer these in practical form.The generation of natural gas engines in use here is currently the most compact in its class. What’s more, these engines run very quietly – something that is particularly advantageous within the city – and they are fully suited for renewable natural gas.”
For more than one year now, Augsburg’s bus fleet has already been using renewable natural gas 100 percent of the time and is the first city Germany-wide with an almost CO2-neutral regular service. As the most important local public transportation company in the region, the AugsburgerStadtwerke currently run a bus fleet of 89 vehicles, all of which are powered by natural gas.
The twelve Citaro NGT are a follow on delivery to the first Citaro NGT with new engine technology that was delivered in December 2015.
